The variable resistor work as designed to slow down the fan.It's compatible with fans that has no speed modulation built in.

Not sure about the voltage on this, i have 7 Cooler Master MF120 Halo PWM fans connected to this, i can turn them off which is what i wanted. But there doesn't seem to be any medium speed. I turn the knob very slightly to have them running on lowest, but if i alter it to anything higher it increases fan speed to maximum, can't get no gradual increase or decrease. Not sure if it's the fans, could be but they are PWM so sould be able to get a incremental increase and decrease in RPM. Also the pins in places were bent sideways and some fan connections were difficult to fit into place. It does the job but i'm looking for something better than this. Also one of the knobs was loose so i had to ditch the plastic control knobs, which fit over the 4 smaller knobs.

It does change the speed of a PWM fan but when I tried 2 different fans it only changed from slow to fast between 3 and 4 o'clock positions on the knobs. Tried 2 fans on 1 channel and the range increased a little but not very much.Sent it back

Exactly as another reviewer said, this cannot set fans to a medium speed, they will pretty much go full blast or barely at all, with the fans in my system spinning for a few seconds, stopping, and starting again when they are set to low speeds
