Dead bacteria
Product smelled like rotten eggs, different then the previous purchases. I guess bad storage!

This definitely works. Fritzzyme saved me during a horrible situation.. I've been stalling upgrading my filtration in my reef tank from an old canister filter to sump (price... yikes) and after putting off the monthly cleaning of debris from the canister filter and putting off water changes for 6 months my system began to cascade into a nosedive. Everything in the tank was releasing a slime and fish started to die.. fish I've had for over 6 years - longer than I've had my dog. I did water changes, but I think the bacteria in the live rock had died or was dying, nothing was stopping it. I ordered this stuff with 1 day shipping and arrived the next morning. I disconnected the canister and just ran the power heads full blast to really move the water and dosed per directions. By that evening the water was clearing up and the smell of death was dissipating from the tank. In 48 hours the polyps began to open and with 2 more water changes nitrates were close to zero. Needless to say, I did get a sump installed by the end of the week and the old Aquatop was on craigslist. I dosed with the Fritzzyme once a week for the next 3 weeks to start up the sump - hoping to "seed" the deep sand bed in the sump even though I used live sand and established live rock rubble. It's been just over a month and water quality is perfect. I should say I also used NO3:PO4-X as well to give the new bacteria the carbon it needs to establish just in case anyone reading this is having the same nightmare. I swore if the tank went down I was done with the whole saltwater thing, praying that it would reverse course. I would credit Fritzzyme for saving my tank. FYI... I didn't read the dosage before I purchased, so I got lucky when I ordered the gallon size. The dosage for established tanks (re-establishing beneficial bacteria and adding new livestock) is 2oz per 5 gallons, so you go through a lot. I almost gave 4 stars because I can't see why it can't be more concentrated to be smaller doses... but after my near-miss and comeback thanks to Fritzzyme (and I'm not versed in the concentrating of bacteria) they deserve 5 stars. Just be sure you order enough.

I recently set up my first reef aquarium and was recommended to use FritzZyme 9 to maintain water quality. I'm so glad I did! It contains live beneficial bacteria that break down waste and other organic matter in the water, which keeps my aquarium healthy and free from ammonia.

The biggest fish in my tank died under a rock somewhere and I could not find it. The water became milky and smelled putrid. I did a couple large water changes as fast as my RO unit and pre-heater would allow. The water changes helped, but not for very long. I ordered this product with next-day shipping. The putrid smell started going away within hours of dosing this. The next day, the tank was still cloudy but I could actually see the back again. The day after that it was mostly clear again. After a week it was crystal clear, even clearer than before all this happened! I have been dosing the remainder of the bottle periodically and I really feel like it has rejuvenated my reef tank. I dosed AmGuard throughout the whole ordeal to protect my livestock from ammonia spikes while the bacteria did it's thing. I think it was a good combo. I didn't lose any other livestock.

Ammonia was brought down in 7-8 days which is acceptable, nitrites stayed up and constantly increased for a month with fish in the tank and low feeding and with constant water changes to keep nitrites below 4ppm, I had to use other product to finish cycle as fish suffered. Lost my trust in fritz.
