Raj and Simran are two young people who happen to be traveling through Europe at the same time. By coincidence, they meet, become good friends and of course, fall in love. They return home with stars in their eyes only to find out that Simran s father has already promised her hand in marriage to his best friend s son. Simran is forced to leave London and return to India with her family where she is thoroughly miserable until Raj comes to India to take back his  Dulhaniya. Does Raj succeed?Â...Â...Watch the movie. Yash Chopra has outdone himself with this movie. The music and songs will forever remain etched in one s memory, especially  Mehendi laga ke rakhna.. (a personal favorite) And of course, how can we forget the star jodi. This romantic drama is must have for all you Shahrukh and Kajol fans.

True love at it's finest
Whenever I think of a film that's considered to be a romantic classic, this movie always comes to mind! I watch DDLJ every now and again and I'm pleased to say that though I'm a slightly different person each time, my love and admiration only grows every time I see it. The main reason being that what irritates me about many other young love romantic movies (especially the 2000's American ones) is the immaturity consistency displayed between the main leads (especially the guys), but DDLJ never makes me feel that way. Though Raj loves his pranks and maybe child-like at times, he's always sincere, takes accountability for his actions, and never fails to apologize to Simran afterwards (even when they were strangers). Simran, on the other hand, is not your average rom-com girl who's desperate for love and willing to settle for less or even jaded and doesn't believe in love. She never backs down from what she sets out to do, has always allowed herself to dream, and though stubborn at times, is always willing to work things out. On a broader note, I can't get enough of the extremely honest acting, raw and vulnerable emotions, deep family and cultural sentiments, and the incredible chemistry not just between SRK and Kajol, but between all the main cast is simply phenomenal (personally adore the bond between Raj and his Pops!). I just LOVE the plethora of cute moments between the couple that seem so natural, the hilarious jokes in between the more serious moments, and the tear-jerking ending that never fails to remind me why this movie is ALWAYS worth the watch. Though it's been 30 years since this movie came out, the forever relatable themes of true love, sacrifice, and bravery beautifully portrayed in DDLJ are exactly why it's is considered by many, myself included, to be a timeless piece of art. All in all, If you're ever considering watching this movie, DO IT... because I promise, you won't regret it.P.S. - they just don't make them like Raj anymore!

Nearly Perfect Movie - slight error with the English subtitles on Eng sub DVD, BluRay is awesome
I have to say that watching this movie was an amazing introduction into Bollywood! It easily made its way into my Top 10 favorite movies of all time, and as an indie filmmaker, my list of favorites is huge!I hope that tells you something about the quality of the film - the performances, cinematography, script/storyline, editing, and score are almost flawless. This is one of those movies that made me laugh and cry more than once during the first and subsequent viewings. There's a reason why it has run for 800 consecutive weeks in India! If you're looking at buying this movie, I'll assume you know how awesome it is and/or have read other reviews, so I'll just add a comment on the DVD itself.I bought the one that said it had English subtitles, not knowing whether or not the original had any. I did not know at the time DDLJ is on Blu-Ray, or I would have just ordered that instead. The video quality was acceptable, although I would have liked to see such a famous film remastered. The DVD menu is animated and cute. There is an option just to play the songs, which is nice, as sometimes that's enough to relive the experience without watching all three hours of it again. The one problem I would note is that the subtitles disappear during the scene where she breaks her fast for the Karwa Chauth (right when they are putting the candles in the water). The titles do return a few minutes later, but I do wish that wasn't a problem. The movie's great, though, so I have to give it five stars anyway. My love for it trumps any technical glitches. But bottom line - if you like the movie enough to consider a purchase, just go ahead get it on Blu-Ray. That's what I'm going to do now. :)[EDIT]We did wind up buying the BluRay version, and I can't tell you how blown away I was by the difference in quality. You still have the occasional interlacing that you may notice at times, but the clarity of and the details you can see in the video are amazing, and the color pops with intensity! It's really, really a much better quality product than the regular DVD, and completely worth it if you love the movie. My one complaint, I guess, is the quality of the bonus DVD that came with it. The special features are not BluRay - they are only standard definition DVD. And there are no subtitle options. True, they speak in English about half of the time, but I'd really like to know what they're saying for the rest of it, too. So if you get this one, buy it for the quality of the movie and not the bonus features.Otherwise, I thought it was great, and I feel good about this purchase, even after having the other version already. It actually made me appreciate the BluRay more...

Sensational Movie
This is the only Bollywood movie I own. I watched it first on NetFlix and then immediately ordered it.It is a romantic comedy. The lead actress is hot and the guy is so funny. It runs for 3 hours but that went by in a flash. The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable. I loved the comedy and I loved the music and dancing. There were many dreamy sequences in the mountains of Switzerland that were outstanding as well. The Blu-ray does not have English audio for the movie itself but does have English sub-titles. About 80% of the bonus material is spoken in English. The image quality of this Blu-ray is excellent.
