The Found Dogs - where are they now? by Susan Weidel, Adopter of Vick dog Little Red
The Found Dogs is a sequel to the New York Times Best Seller - The Lost Dogs. The slim volume provides a view from the vantage point of ten years since the notorious dog fighting bust of former NFL football player Michael Vick. Gorant tells what happened to the pit bulls since their rescue in 2007, and how the passage of time changed the place that was once called Bad Newz Kennels. Gorant visited the former Vick property for a ceremony that honored the dogs who died there and the dogs who were rescued. The place is now the Good News Rehab Center founded by Dogs Deserve Better, a non-profit organization that bought the property and turned it into a haven for rescued dogs. Gorant provides an update on each of the dogs adopted into private homes as family dogs. He also gives an update on the dogs who were ordered by the the federal court to remain at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in S. Utah. Those dogs also found safety and love with the the dedicated staff and volunteers who doted on them. Many of the dogs have now passed away, and Gorant writes eloquently about their legacy that changed the perception of fighting dogs who are now seen as the victims of a crime and not the perpetrators. Because of the Vick dogs, many fight dogs are now given the same chance to survive and thrive.

A second chance
I rescued my first Pitbull over 18 years ago. Since my first I have rescued 4 more. Currently I have a 2yr old female and a 6yr old male. These 2 were victims of abuse. They are the most loving happy dogs that u can imagine. They are spoiled rotten and they do deserve to be. I read "The Lost Dogs" because I was so appalled about the Vick case. In reading that book it gave me hope that these poor abused neglected dogs would be given a second chance. They were so resilient. Yes unfortunately there were a small few that could not overcome the trauma they suffered but most found forever homes. This book proved that 10 yrs later these wonderful dogs found there forever homes and experienced love for the first time. They were happy and doing well and in return continued to give unconditional love. Anyone who loves Pitbulls will enjoy this book and will be happy to know how far the laws have changed

LOVE The Follow-up
The only thing I wish was added was a picture of each dog. Some I am familiars with, others not. I about had a heart attack when I saw the name Lil Red. I remember from "Lost Dogs," another Lil Red.

If you followed the Vick Dogs and the high-profile case, you will want to read this for sure!
Before reading you should read The Lost Dogs and then this sequel. Without reading the initial book, you won't get the full power of what Michael Vick did and how these babies suffered and survived. The Found Dogs gives a bit of a happier spin because everyone wants to know the ending. But please read both books to see how heinous his crimes were.

A "where are they now" book
This is a follow up of "The lost dogs" book which I believe is necessary to read to truly appreciate this one, as is just a compilation of the current status of all the Victory Dogs. The stories go from very sad to truly happy ever after, you get to feel a lot of the spectrum of emotions as you read the individual tales. All in all is a wonderful conclusion for the victims of a fighting dog ring who were given a 2nd chance (this was not standard before the Michael Vick case) and how the dog brought happiness to their caretakers.Although not necessary, I recommend to watch the movie "The Champions" to bring more meaning to the book.

Satisfying, but short.
I really wanted to find out the status of the dogs from "The Lost Dogs"...I did get that satisfaction from the book; however, I am not giving it a 5 star rating because of the fact that this is rather a gratuitous follow-up, and was done so long after the fact that half of the dogs have passed away. It was short enough it could have been a magazine piece in one of the larger magazines, and there were typos throughout. All of that being said, it shouldn't deter those folks who read Gorant's original book from reading it. Those who followed the Vick dog-fighting case and want to know where those poor creatures ended up will find the book a good closing chapter on that. (Unfortunately, not on dog-fighting in this country).

An update
This book provides the reader with a brief synopsis of the dogs and humans involved in the Vicks case. It offers hope for the continued humane treatment of the breed and an expansion of what was learned in dealing with the dogs to other cases of boarding and long-term shelter dogs. The most valuable message from the text is that all dogs must be assessed on an individual basis. While the book does provide closure for those who read Lost Dogs, its brevity is quite disappointing if the author's intent was in any way to reach an audience beyond those familiar with the Vick survivors.

I loved it!
I loved it !! It was great to read of the updated lives of the trail blazing Vicktory Dogs !! I laughed & cried. They have definitely touched my heart & will always have a place in it. I have followed their story from the very beginning & it breaks my heart every time we lose one. They have saved so many more dogs what they proved to everyone - that dogs from fighting rings are victims & deserve to be treated as such !! They are all individuals & should be treated as such. They all deserve a chance at a good life & a loving home & the dirt bags that abused them need to serve serious time in prison. God Bless the Vicktory Dogs <3

A great read but could have been so much more...
While I'm really enjoying this follow up book on the Vick Dogs I'm also a little disappointed in the book. I was expecting a book arpund the same thickness as the first book "The Lost Dogs" as this book a follow up ten years later from the first book but it's quite slim the new book. Given there's been ten years of history to catch up with I expected loads of pictures and random tales about the dogs to show the reader just what these dogs have gone on to become. I do know and fully respect that some adopters wish for their story to remain out of the public domain and little if anything is known about certain dogs which I respect. I do know that many of the dogs have had or continue to have very public profiles on various social media platforms and so the loving public have been able to follow their ups, downs, progress and see them in happier times. They're dogs that caught the worlds attention and most absolutely love them even if like me you've never actually met one of them in the flesh but followed them on social media and through the books. I do love the new book and maybe it is the perfect way to end the books but personally I just thought there could have been a little more on each dog with a few pictures showing them in happier times in loving homes or been cared for by dedicated staff at the amazing rescues that took them in. By no means a bad book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who's followed the case.

Fantastic Book, I read this book in one sitting.
I loved reading the update of these beautiful Dogs, this is the second book regarding these now famous Dogs, you will not be disappointed reading about them. Please do not believe the awful hype surrounding Pit Bull type breeds, they are the most wonderful, caring and loyal Dogs.

Would like to see it in print
As a follow up to The Lost Dogs I give this book 5 stars. I could not put it down. These dogs helped a lot to bring awareness to dog fightingAnd in todays climate we need that. Yje plight of dogs in need today is greater than it was 10 years ago. Would like to see it in print form

I wanted more
I wanted more from this very short book. Pictures would have helped. Great to reconnect with these dogs, so many have left us now. A fitting tribute, just too small a book for the money.
