It took me 2.5 hours of work due to my chair has a lower cylinder chamber welded together with the legs.I had to remove that part out of new cylinder to use the existing one I had there.Replacing the whole base was not an option, as the chair is very heavy and need longer legs to stand on.If this is your case, please read on.This is the first time I've replaced the cylinder.I'd recommend to ask someone to assist the diy-er with these replacement in such cases.I had to pull it apart and put it together twice, since the lower part has a shaft with the bearing enclosed by just a couple of washers, this assembly only had to be installed (inserted) on the shaft standing vertically to keep that assembly in place, if not - the washer falls off and just sits in the cylinder unattached, the shaft will go through into the floor after everything seemed assembled.I'd also recommend, for executive-style chairs, to have a good-weighted mallet ready, not a hummer.Also, the vise or some other fixture to hold it in place while disassembling/assembling.I had both available and put them to good use.It would've been way easier if I had a helping hand.Once "everything" was in place, the cylinder works great, little stiff for my weight (about 210 - 220), but works fine, soft enough for me and I don't mind. If you are in about same weight range and would like the softer touch, there are other choices that are also a very good quality products, just like this one.I expect it to last (1000lb is a way over it's actual use in my case)It can be done, good luck with yours.

I got a free office chair at a garage sale because it was broken. This lift was extremely easy to replace...as in, it took me longer to push the chair into the livingroom than it took to replace the hydraulic lift. I've used the chair everyday for a year now and it's just as strong as the day I installed it. Highly recommend!

This cylinder installs well and works as designed. However, it does not come with a tool to remove the existing cylinder so you can install this one. If you have a pipe wrench you can use that, but if you're like me and don't have one you'll either need to buy a pipe wrench or buy a specialty tool for the purpose. You can get an equally strong cylinder with the removal tool for the cost of this cylinder and a separate pipe wrench, and for less if you buy this cylinder and the specialty tool separately. I'd recommend saving yourself some effort by buying an all-in-one kit.

Obviously you are the practical type if you are thinking about buying this. The think is, you need to be able to get the old shaft and cylinder off. Don't believe the manufacturer's movie, it's a joke! I have a good solid metal vice and was able to separate the tapered connections on each end using hammer blows and some wood to protect the chair. Relatively easy but it takes a little man handling (am I still allowed to say that?). What was really a problem for me was the first one I got sank to the bottom. There was also fluid leaking around the seal. However, it was no problem because I was able to get a replacement which works perfectly fine. It was just a bit more labor to take off the bad one and put the replacement on. This was actually an upgrade from the original because I got a longer shaft. Now I can sit higher up now which i prefer. It still goes down far enough when you need it to. This fixed a nice $400 chair that I was given, so I'm happy.

So i got this so my hibby could sit in my office chair... he hasnt bc my job has taken over the room and now my office computer has taken over the main desk. But apparently it was not as stable as it claimed i did have to extend it completely to get ot out of my chair again... at first i thought it was the tilt mechanism failed how wrong i was =(

I am a 330 pound man and most gas cylinders either don't hold me or fail after a short time. This one does not and is a sturdy unit. The few extra bucks are worth it.

This is the third cylinder that I have replaced on my home office chair. This gas lift cylinder seems to be more robust and better suited for my chair. As normal, no installation instructions were included, but I have done this before, so it was pretty straight forward. I have had no issues with its functioning.

Using the phrase "will fit most units" is not the best for your business offers. If it doesn't fit it will be returned. That lowers your profits. It is better to just mention the real dimensions. The butt of the cylinder was much larger than the receiving end. Not being able to communicate directly with the supplier is also a limiting factor to getting the right item. Specially in this line of replacement parts. Sorry. Thank you. I also suggested that someone there contact me and that hasn't happened yet.

Personalmente me considero una persona un poco por encima del promedio osea cargo cosas pesadas sin problema, al llegar esto mire videos de como sacar dicho piston roto y fue un problema sacarlo al final no pude y le pedi ayuda a mi padre y los dos martillamos el piston anterior al final lo tuvimos que desarmar para poder conseguir sacar el anterior. Una vez fuera todo bien.

Compre una Silla Gamer, muy comoda pero esta muy bajita lo que hacia muy incomodo estar en la computadora. Busque varias soluciones en internet y entre ellas venia cambiar el Piston. Fue la solucion mas facil y mande a pedir este producto.Estoy muy contento con la compra porque mi silla ahora si queda a la altura que necesito.

Oh wow, what a long cylinder this thing has! I'm six feet tall and about 350 lbs, and this can more than adequately handle my leg length and weight.Effortless to install. Really pleased. I'll be buying another one for my home office chair too.
