Such a Quiet Place: A Novel

A NEIGHBORHOOD FULL OF FEAR & PARANOIA...
Welcome to Hollow’s Edge, where you can find secrets, scandal, and a suspected killer—all on one street. Hollow’s Edge used to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Ruby’s back. With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now she’s terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go? Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge. It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truetts’ murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim. My Thoughts:When Ruby comes back to Hollow’s Edge after she is released, her conviction overturned, she blithely moves back into the house with Harper. Suddenly Harper is afraid and uncertain, wondering what Ruby plans to do. Soon strange events are happening, as neighbors try to cover their own involvement in her conviction, keeping their eyes on Ruby and what she might do next.A community board that spotlights the thoughts of the neighbors keeps them all focused on covering up secrets while sharing ideas that only heighten their paranoia about Ruby who might be uncovering what they all might have done to put her behind bars in the first place. When another death occurs, Harper pushes hard to uncover the truth, and the neighbors all become their own worst enemies. Such a Quiet Place is a book that kept me turning pages and earned 4.5 stars

Neigbors Friends and Enemies
I live in a condo complex with an HOA and nosy neighbors. This had me questioning over and over who was telling the truth, who could be trusted, what neighbors were lying for who and why. I finished this in two days and instantly came to Amazon and ordered another book by Megan Miranda.

slow story.
This book was slow. It had a good story and twist but took forever to get there. It needed more to grab me

Another great book from Megan Miranda
4⭐️“Turned out, we were all so close to criminal. All you needed was a good enough motive.”Fourteen months ago, the quiet neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge was upended when Brandon and Fiona Truett were killed via carbon monoxide. Ruby Fletcher, the dog walker who had moved in next door with Harper Nash, is accused of using her key to enter their house, starting the car and leaving them behind to die after letting the dog outside. She’s eventually convicted with help of doorbell camera’s around the neighborhood. But then Ruby is released on a technicality and with no place to go, she returns to Hollow’s edge. The core group come together regularly to form a community watch, still convinced Ruby is a killer. And Harper think their suspicions may be correct. But anonymous letters start showing up claiming to “know what you did” and they aren’t aimed at Ruby. The letters are for Harper.Such a Quiet Place dives into status and the expectation to uphold that status. All of the characters live in a wealthy subdivision and do everything they can to uphold the appearance that they are perfect. Ruby, who moved in as a ‘tenant’ of Harper’s, is considered an outsider and everyone was very quick to turn on her. A potential dirty cop lives in the neighborhood and made sure everyone’s story at the time of the Truett’s death stayed in line. Harper is never quite sure where she falls in the community when it comes to Ruby and feels how easy it is to fall out of favor. My biggest complaint is a character flaw of Harper; on more than one occasion she is told that she can’t make a decision on her own and that’s true. She had testified in Ruby’s favor during the trial, but was overly suspicious and paranoid when Ruby returned. If I was that concerned that the person in my spare room is a murderer, I’d like to think I wouldn’t let them stay. I just wish Harper would have grown more of a backbone.

Kept coming back for more
I recently read Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda. I have read this author before and while I liked that book I was disappointed. It was being sold as a thriller and was much closer to a mystery. This time, despite the description being thriller, I went into it expecting a mystery. Ahhh, much better. This is the story of a neighborhood of just a few houses. We follow Harper Nash whose husband has left her and her friend Ruby Fletcher has been convicted of murdering two of the neighbors. When Ruby turns up, after having her conviction overturned and being released from jail, all the residents are on edge. They fear a killer now is among them. As we follow the story to find out why Ruby would come back to the scene of the crime, the reader is also urged to discover if she was even guilty in the first place, or had the group of homeowners worked together to send her to prison. As with most places, we soon discover that everyone has secrets, some worse than others.Expecting a mystery, I was much happier this time. I thought perhaps it was a slow read or too wordy but then read a chapter out loud to hubby and discovered it was pretty darn good. I needed to slow down and just enjoy it. Pretty soon, I found myself picking it up over and over again...you know, just a chapter here, a few more pages there, maybe hit an even page number before calling it a night. It was good and I now consider myself a fan.

No plot twists; not sure why it's been called a thriller
I feel bad giving any author from any genre bad reviews as it's not easy to write a book. But when absolutely nothing has happened even till Page 140, you cannot stop yourself from giving a one star. I don't know if any plot twist happened after Page 140 because I lost my patience and gave up on the book. This is the first book I've read of this author; won't be reading any more books from her for sure. If you're a thriller fan, please know you'll need to be extremely patient to be able to finish this one.
