SMI - Bread Knife Solingen Butter Knife Olive Wood Handle Butter Spreader Table Knife with Wide Blade - Made in Germany - Not Dishwasher Safe

We use this type of spreader daily for butter, preserves, peanut butter, tuna salad, and other foods and condiments that need spreading. There are a number of different types available on Amazon.com from inexpensive plastic up to this one , which is the most expensive. The online sales photo features a nice looking wooden multi shade wooden handle. We ordered two and like everything about the knife except the handle wasn't the elegant handle that we expected (see photo). For some, this may be a minor issue. For me, I docked the review one star. When setting the table with two such different knives (both from the sales photo and the drastic difference in wood) would be disappointing. Anyway, that, besides comparative high price are the two negative issues. The positives include fine, German workmanship, nicely finished wood handle, good fit in hand, a semi sharp edge that could be used for cheese, and an overall size that doesn't look like a commercial utensil if placed on the table for serving appetizers or with a butter dish. Again, the function is great for us. The mixed handles are a bit disappointing and the price is quite more than double anything comparable on Amazon.com. Summary: Would have been okay with the cost if the handles looked like (or close to) the online sales photo. Will return.

For its price it's very useful

Perfect "buckel" knife. Hard to find in the US, don't know why as they're so useful for cutting and spreading... the Germans know how to do breakfast. The wood handle looks better than the photo.

I have been looking for a butter knife or spreading knife for ages. I found this and it is perfect. The handle is very comfortable. This knife has excellent balance to it. I went back and got a second one for myself and 2 for my mom. She loves it as well.,

Couteau à tartiner parfait pour aller jusqu'au fond des pots de pâte à tartiner 😉.Tient bien en main et à l air plutôt résistant. On verra bien au fur et à mesure de son usage.

ich dachte, dass ich da ein scharfes Messer bekomme, mit dem ich auch Brötchen schmieren kann. aber da habe ich mich geschnitten! das Messer ist überhaupt nicht scharf. Es ließ sich aber gut schärfen. Ob es schneidhaltig ist weiß ich nicht. Hoffe es, bei diesem hochwerten Hersteller.
