Very happy with this book. I enjoy looking at all the glamorous dresses. The pictures are a whole page, the color is perfect and so clear.

Coffee table book
Got the book to be used as inspiration in sewing and found that it also functions as a great coffee table book.

a fascinating mind blower of an overview of dresses
Now I know what it means to be a designer of haute couture dresses. I always thought so. Until I went to the Costume Institite, which houses 35,000 odd designs that start back in 1700s France or so when court dresses had skirts about five feet in width. Yes, dresses skinnied down and all that, but it's much more. This book is a great overview of what women have done lately to stay, well, dressed. After you get through this book, go there, but after you enjoy One Hundred Shoes, a companion book, if you find you love fashion as much as I do.

This is a really beautiful book
this book has made my book table look classy. the pictures are very beautiful and well chosen. The pictures expand may years and show styles from early last century on and give you great perspective. I intend to give this as give to otheres it is that nice.

Oh, swoon!
Absolutely gorgeous to behold. The photography is superb, the book is very high quality (although I wish it were hard cover!), the writing is clear and well-edited. My only complaint, beyond the cover, is that they didn't include more diverse items, including more of the really old stuff from the collection. I love Dior and the New Look as much as the next Fashionista, but those incredibly preserved pieces from the 1700s and 1800s are what I wanted to see more. And the one example from my favorite fashion decade (the 1880s) is a CRAZY-huge bustle. Sure, it exemplifies the extreme of the trend, but the Met has so many gorgeous gowns, I wish they'd included a few less-freaky examples. Guess they can publish "Another 100 Dresses." I'll buy it!

excellent book for fashion lovers
I was initially skeptic on buying this book, after all, even though I loved fashion and wearing brand names, I really didn't know much about the intricacies and the details that go into the work of each designer. This book has helped me see the evolution of fashion and how real gorgeous designs will always be timeless... from the early 19th century dresses to the later designs featured in this book, you'll appreciate the details, art and beauty of these creations. I read this in one sitting, (although I had to pause to look at the different terms used) and I was clamoring for more in the end. I so recommend this book for any fashion lover. I am more enamored now with the details in the design and not just the name/brand that goes with the clothing. For sure, this book has taught me how to appreciate fashion even more.

Beautiful dresses, but moves into mod too quickly and dresses not attributed to hardly anyone!
There are some beautiful dresses here, but it's a cold read. I wanted to know under what circumstances woulda woman wear such attire and what type of women would she be (upper, middle or lower classs/married or unmarried)? In only a few instances the wearer of the dress is named, but there is not much of a bio of her to warm the reader to the dress. In addition, it ramps up to some really crazy 60, 70 and 80 designs too quickly. Many of the names repeated over and over - Chanel, Valentino, Versace. We can see these designers today. I've heard they have a Marie Antoinette dress. Where was that? I would have preferred 50 dresses with more biography as to the wearer and more designers we are not familiar with. I'm sure there is better book out there if you are afterthe historical/romantic aspect I am instead of a runway look in a book.

Stunning Book
If you appreciate fashion (and history) at all you will adore this book. It is one of the lovliest costume/dress books I have ever purchased through the years. The text is uncomplicated and the photos are out of this world. The book is a handy size. Usually this type of book is bulky and or coffee table sized. 100 dresses is easy to peruse and return to again and again. I bought two copies of this title.

A very beautiful book to see the haute couture dresses which are complicated to make for the shows... Nice to look at the book while relaxing.
