Fascinating story with well research historical background.

I am learning Spanish and this book is good for intermediate and advanced intermediate levels. On my tablet, I can tap a word and get a definition and translation, and I can add a word or phrase to my list to study later. The grammar is understandable, but the vocabulary is difficult at times (lots of words about architecture, church and government functionaries and 14th century tools and clothes), but a good story. I am going to watch the serial adaptation on NetFlix after I finish.

La Catedral del Mar es una de las novelas mas encantadoras que he podido leer. Desde que comienzas el libro te cautiva hasta la ultima pagina de este donde se encuentra la nota del autor. La trama es unica con detalles claros y especificos sin llegar al aburrimiento por parte del lector. Te envuelves en la historia de Bernaty Arnau y todo alrededor de la Catedral del Mar, los amorios,la intriga y pasion, la envidia, ademas de las injusticias de la inquisicion. Me sorprende mucho el basto cononimiento del la epoca medieval por parte del autor y lo que mas me sorprendio es que en la nota del autor confirma que esta basada en hechos reales de esa epoca.El final de la novela... como hacia tiempo no leia... un final merecedor de esa gran novela, conmovedor y a la altura de los personajes.Felicidades a Ildefonso Falcones por esta gran obra que todo el mundo debiera de disfrutar. Bien vale la pena leer cada pagina de este libro y abundar en las investigaciones sobre la epoca Medieval y la Inquisicion.Este libro da pie a una novela de television con un gran mensaje y sentido de humildad, devocion, fe, amor y esperanza.Si estas en busca de un libro maravilloso para atesorar, leer y re-leer este es el indicado.Disfrutalo tal cual lo he hecho yo!

This I a beautiful story, well researched and paced. Makes the reader want to visit , or revisit Barcelona. Specially, the church of Santa Maria ( La Catedral del Mar). I applaud the many instances where the author follows the real history of the city and its surroundings. Those who have read Martinez Zafon will discover two different cities. Zafon's Barcelona is gloony, cold ,rainny, dark. Falcones' is sunny, with a God-sent Mediterranean breeze. Probably, Martinez Zafon depicts a city to go with the sordid theme of his novels. My perception of the real Barcelona is closer to Facones's. In my opinion, what detracted from the pleasure of reading the book, was the frequent and confusing practice of changing from one story to a different one within the same chapter, with no separation, to help the reader notice the change. Sometimes you have to read far into the paragraph to realize it is a new or different story.The good news is that this practice is not present in his following book " La Reina Descalza". JAS

Leí este libro luego de varias recomendaciones y aún cuando su historia no me atrapó del todo, dado que en algunos casos sentía que daba vueltas a ningún lado, al final su trama pudo engancharme y disfruté de su lectura.A futuro aun no he decidido si leo los demás libros que dan continuación a La Catedral del Mar.

Excellent encounter of fiction and non fiction.Research based plus a fascinating imagination.I enjoyed this story from the beginning to the end.

Este libro me encantó!Es un sabor distinto el haber leído este libro conociendo varias de aquellas calles, avenidas, plazas, iglesias en donde se desarrolla la trama...es que sencillamente la ciudad de Barcelona me fascinó...el haber almorzado frente a la fachada de la Basílica de Santa María del Mar es una linda experiencia que llevo en mi memoria..Lindo libro, la historia de un payés que lucha por su libertad y sobre todo la de su hijo, y este hijo por su vida, su amor, su iglesia y su Virgen...todo teniendo como colofón la construcción de la hoy basílica...55 años de construcción...la única iglesia de estilo gótico catalán puro...bella por dentro y por fuera...¿La ves sonreír, hijo? - le preguntó

Wonderfully researched with details of life of the time. Very vivid. One fears for the protagonist throughout.

Es la cuenta agradable y afectuosa de un chico de campo que hace bien en la gran ciudad. Cualquiera que esté planeando unas vacaciones en Barcelona debería leer este libro. Ayuda a explicar lo que motivó a la gente medieval de Barcelona para construir sus magníficas iglesias, un triunfo del espíritu humano. Es romántica, pero es creíble, una lectura profundamente agradable, mi tipo de libro.

Enjoyed this page turner. Characters are two dimensional and the book is very long, but great for me learning Spanish. Good holiday read, won’t change your life.

I've read this book in a week! Since begging to end I was hooked, couldn't put it down. The characters are captivating, the story like is really well presented and Ildefonso Falcones is a fountain of knowledge, other reviewers didn't appreciate that, but I do, not only a novel but really real and informative. Really recommended.

Bought as a birthday present for my daughter. I had read the book and recommended it to my daughter and she was delighted to receive it. It's a must for anyone that likes historical novels and has an interest in Barcelona. An easy to read book that holds ones interest from start to finish.
