Not extremely effective but definitely better than nothing
To be honest, I think I was expecting dead silence after installing this for use in voice-over recordings. But there is no magic. This does help but only marginally. But keep in mind, every little bit of acoustic treatment helps. So while the normal noises of our society, traffic, yelling kids, neighbors moving things upstairs, etc cannot be drowned out completely, their influence can be reduced a little with this and the noise floor can be lowered.I used sections of this single piece to cover the inside of a normal plastic storage bin from all five sides and left the front open for the mic to fit and for me to speak. It works pretty well. I've managed to lower the general ambient noises by about 6 dB which is pretty good. Some noises are better attenuated with this foam than others. For instance, low humming of computer fans and split A/C is lowered but the vegetable vendor in the street or the construction work happening across the street are not affected by much. But unless you can afford a full-fledged recording studio, way out of the range of my pocket, this is a good start and economical compared to other treatments. So if you are just starting out, like me, and need to create just a little peace and quite to record an audio-book or voice-over, this can help.

Totally changed
Bought this 6x3 size foam. As a trail i just placed it behind my speakers (as it is 6feet lenght it came back of Pineer andrew jones Front left speaker, center, and 12" subwoofer) and tested the sound of movies and songs 5.1 and 2.1. And it was a day and night difference. I am very happy with it. and booked the another one to completely cover the front wall back of the speakers. Sound absorprtion and diffusion is very good. My small home theater is in my living room (11x20) with a lot of furniture dining table, sofa sets, refrigerators, showcase, my audio gear is (pioneer andrew jones sp-pk52fs, polk psw125 and marantz nr1601 7.1 receiver) and i wanted my change my total equipment as i was in disguise that it was not enough to produce a good quality sound. After using this 6x3 size foam, first of all my polk psw125 subwoofer came to life. the low end has become very accurate and tight. I dont know why, after i used this foam there is sudden increase in volume and later i understood that it was not increase in volume but it just absorbed all the first reflections and gave me the clean and warm sound especially from my marantz reciever. Thanx MMT

Amazing echo reducing material (does not soundproof very well)
I bought this product for my basement, to turn into a movie theatre/ recording studio, the difference is amazing. There is no echo, and the sound quality from my microphone seems to have improved from this foam. However, if you are looking for a perfect soundproof material, this isnโt what you need. While the foam does an excellent job in improving acoustics, it only blocks out sounds to a certain level. For example, in my experience, the foam would block out the sound of a moderately loud fan outside the room, but it wouldnโt block out the sound of a very loud vehicle outside, like a motorcycle, or a truck. Still, this foam is a great finish for any studio, and I would highly recommend it, as it serves its purpose almost flawlessly.
