This is your guide!
I was brand new to Premiere Pro (2024 edition) and searching for a good text to help me understand the application and supplement my online learning. I purchased another book because this text was the 2022 version. Well, after getting that other book, I was sore.y disappointed with the poor visual quality and limited information. Since I was new to the application, I figured the 2022 version would help until the new released book comes out.Wow! This book helped me so much. It is well written, thorough, clear, and has great graphics and tips to help you not only learn the basics, but truly start producing your own projects. I have been impressed and I’ll plan to read this a second time as I start using all of the techniques I’ve learned. Don’t hesitate - this is your learning guide!

Good, with a big BUT!
First the good; The author of the book doesn't waffle on about his wife or his daughter or his dog, or even his car, unlike writers of other text books like this. He just gets to the point, and tells the reader what they need to do to complete the tutorials include, and why they need to select from certain menu items, etc. The writing is a little dry, but not as bad as I've seen in other books. Now the big BUT; For the price point, the print quality badly lets the author down. I don't know if he had anything to do with it, but the book looks as though it was printed on someone's SOHO inkjet printer, on copier paper! For example, the section on Colour Correction is a complete joke, because the images in that chapter are small and blurred, and over satured (Refer to my pictures). Making it impossible to really compare what you have done, with the images in the book. Also the copy I received was curled, and had noticable see-through to text on the other side of the paper. Quite shocking really, and Adobe should be ashamed of themselves for asking nigh on 50 UK quids for it. I returned it. As someone has pointed out, there are many many free videos out there which make the book redundant, as do Adobe's constant software updates!

Great for beginners---you'll learn a lot
I never had used Premiere Pro before although I used Cyberlink's PowerDirector a few years back so the concepts of video editing were not new to me. The book seems well-organized and presents a good variety of topics. There are lot of hands-on lessons with detailed instructions and lots of accompanying pictures so beginners need not fear. The only issue I had is that the pictures mostly have a black background which makes the words very difficult to read...at least for me. This is why I gave 4 stars, not 5. The pictures are *very* helpful if you can read them. The book construction is fine and I didn't have a problem forcing it stay wide-open while I followed along on my PC; my After Effects book's pages separated from the spine when laid flat.

Lacks the important and simple stuff
So far, the book failed to provide information such as how to remove transitions and audio tracks. Really don't believe the author new much about the software or actually used it professionally. Only thing positive about it is the graphics and layout, as for substance I have found the answers I needed by doing a search online. So what is the point in buying a book?Tells you to open this and open that, WHERE do I open this and that.
