Astilbe Chinese Pumila Astilbe Chinensis is a compact form of Chinese Astilbe that can be started from seeds. This hardy perennial grows only 10 inches tall, and its striking columns of lilac-pink flowers together with bushy bronze-green foliage make this plant is one of the most valuable additions to a shade garden. Astilbe Pumila blooms approximately for two months, and its ornamental value is highly appreciated. The fragrant Astilbe flowers attract butterflies and bees. Astilbe Chinese Pumila is widely grown in shady areas of the garden. Such applications as woodland gardens, watersides, and borders are most common for growing this plant. Astilbe Pumila is also a wonderful ground cover. Astilbe Chinensis likes moist, well-drained soil; however, it tolerates dryness much better than other Astilbes. The plant is a nice cut flower that is excellent for dried floral arrangements.
