They work on thin walls
I purchased thest to install shower grab rails on fiberglass tubwalls. They have enough surface behind them to support the weight you need to put on them to maintain your balance in the shower. The biggest challenge is keeping the expanding base from spinning while you tighten the screw to spread the base. I found medium sized vice grips worked best. But you need to be extra careful so you do not damage the fiberglass outside of the flange and cover

Does not have securing nibs
Perfectly flat without any nibs to hold the wall while expanding the back. I held with pliers while turning the screw. Once in did the job well to hang a towel rod on the thin walls of my travel trailer.

Great for Vinyl Fences and Such!
I used these in my vinyl fence door latch mounts. The fence installer did not put an adequate lug in place and I had to replace all the inserts. These went in and, using the install tool (search for it...it's worth it!), inserted these very quickly and securely. They hold the bolts securely. A huge improvement.

Effective but not 100%
I bought these for shelf brackets on a wall built with 1/4” or 3/8” paneling. Not sure which. Anyway some of the bolts did not expand properly in the wall and once they were in I couldn’t get them out. The whole thing just turned and would not tighten. I think they are cheap as in “You get what you pay for”.

Would be better if the top ring had a cleat
After you insert the piece into the hole you drilled, the screw is turned to tighten. But nothing stops the whole thing from spinning in the hole (without getting any tighter). I used pliers to hold it. Probably needs a cleat.

Worked perfectly for me
I wanted to attach a lock onto a metal screen door. Used these with a wall anchor setting tool and they worked great. Kind of pricey though.

Hollow wall fastener
Works great if you have limited space in the wall you are trying to install a device. In my case I needed to replace hinges in a cooler.
