If you pay close attention to each nuance of Jack Black's genius, it's the fine wine of comedy. I also appreciate the references to Catholicism, having grown up in Catholic schools. Makes it all the more funny to me. Nacho's team mate... the street urchin, "believes in science". So funny, considering that he doesn't brush his teeth. I can watch this over again each year. It's a feel good movie with comedic staying power. Enjoy.

It's Jack Black, so it is of course very funny. That said: I felt like it was very reminiscent of British humor -- Monty Python and the like. For those who don't know what that means: the jokes don't always make sense to Americans, until you've thought about it for a bit. And much like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the plot (where there is one) isn't particularly likely to meet your expectations, and as often as not will just leave you confused.To illustrate: I sat down with my oldest daughter to watch the Holy Grail not long ago; it was her first time watching it. When it was over, her response was, "What on earth did I just watch?" Fast forward a couple of weeks, and she sat me down to watch Nacho Libre with her... to which I felt that exact same response was *imminently* appropriate.So yeah... don't try to analyze it or understand it. Just enjoy the weird humor. That is, after all, exactly what Jack does best.

My favorite Jack Black movie of all time! My family and I constantly quote it in group texts or family gatherings! Great watch! Highly recommend this classic

Jack Black is incredibly humorous and this movie is hilarious. i can watch it however many times & still laugh. this will be by far one of my favorite movies of all time.

Nacho Libre is a story of a frustrated monk Ignacio played by Jack Black who always dreamed of becoming a luchador, a Mexican wrestler. During the intro it shows a young Nacho collecting/stealing together different trinkets to create his own wrestling uniforms. Unfortunately he was living in a Catholic church’s orphanage and became a monk instead. The film is about whether Nacho can fulfill his dreams of becoming a wrestler, while remaining in the church.Ignacio never gave up on his dreams and after seeing a famous wrestler Ramses and all the attention he garnered decides to secretly enter the luchador business. He can’t do it alone however so he finds a partner Steven played by Hector Jimenez, a homeless man that tried to steal chips donated by a restaurant to the orphanage. Steven takes on the luchador name Esqueleto.The movie has one hilarious moment after another. For instance, Nacho’s job at the church is to make the food. It’s so bad the priests complain they had diarrhea for weeks. There’s the wrestling match when Nacho and Esqueleto take on two midgets who dress and act like demons, and proceed to give Nacho and Esqueleto the beating of their life. Then there’s when Ignacio asks Sister Encarnacion played by Ana de la Reguera on a faux date to preach the gospel to a man. She asks why Ignacio is not wearing his robe. He says it was stinky and he needed to wear his recreation clothes. He then flinches his butt cheeks and tells her that beneath his clothes he is a man and beneath the man is his nucleus.A bonus to the film is the amazing soundtrack that is included. It’s a mix of Mexican originals and new work by Danny Elfman and Beck. Like any good soundtracks the music enhances each scene. For example when Steven finds himself chased by a woman at a party he crashed and she is giving him a lustful look just the right song comes on.In the end Nacho actually transforms from someone that just wanted the fame of a luchador to finding meaning in his life and wrestling via a holy mission.Overall Nacho Libre is a hilarious movie that keeps the laughs going after multiple viewings.

One of my all-time favorite comedies! How can you not like, Jack Black!?

Who doesn't like Mexican Wrestlers?!!O.K., latent homo-erotic fantasies aside, this is a very sweet comedy and Jack Black excels in this stand-alone, and increasingly cult comedy classic. Sure, there are some parts that aren't as funny as they could be or that appeal to a certain kind of taste, but I think it's overall storyline is an endearing one and it's motto is plain - "You can come from humble beginnings and even be not the fittest person on the planet, but inside everyone of us is a hero waiting to come out"!Some people may prefer other Jack Black films ("Kung-fu Panda" springs to mind), but I still think this should be among your collection if you like him.

Another quasi-indie hit that was really always set for success due to the inclusion of the comedy antics of Jack Black. This is closer in tone to Be Kind Rewind and it is a testament to Mr Black that these otherwise under-the-radar gems would go unnoticed if not for his involvement. But these kinds of films were always where he cut his teeth as an actor and he should be duty-bound to champion their obvious worth. That said, the film itself is no classic but it does exactly what it should: it's very funny and it's very quirky.Wonderfully shot and acted it feels like a conventional heartwarmer, which it is in some ways. But it's the oddness that offsets this and makes it funny. It is the classic deadpan style that Black has adopted for this and it works as most of the laughs are at him trying to be serious. The triumph of the film is the charcter's stalwart adherence to his goal and his simple kindness that ultimately overcomes all obstacles. So we may laugh but he wins in the end.But even on a truly base level, it's just a really funny film.

I love this film and it’s a Christmas gift for a friend who didn’t know why wolves fans have wrestling masks for Jimenez when he scores so now they will know about Mexican wrestling and have a laugh as well.
