Good for chewing, just don't take them off!
I am a third grade teacher and bought these for a special education student with an oral fixation. He chewed on everything, even items that were for classroom use. The other students got a bit grossed out, so I thought these would be great. Here are a few tips:1) Tell the student they are not an eraser (maybe even a few times).2) Provide another eraser with the student's name.3) Don't take the topper off. (My student did and the eraser and metal attachment got stuck in his topper, causing a disruption- I ended up having to use needle nose pliers to get them out)4) Don't allow them to be taken home (unless you are rich). They probably won't come back.Over all, these are great. I wish they were a bit less expensive, and that they were not quite so tight.

Heavy duty chewy pencil toppers
I have 5 year old child who chews a lot, especially pencils and pen. I tried many different sensory chewy toppers, most of them not last long. This one is made of the same material of chewy toys (such as T, P, A, Q) and heavy duty. I like this one the most, because my child chew the shape on the top, so he doesn't put pencils his mouth any more. It's easy to clean, and it fits the normal pencils as well as slightly thicker pencils (both without eraser on the top) commonly used in Kindergarten. If you are looking for soft pencil topper, this may not what you want. There is a tube type pencil topper (like water filter tubes) made of soft, flex material. Please check that out though that didn't work with my son. He broke into small pieces in a minute and chewed in his mouth, so I had to make sure he didn't swallow those pieces.

Does the Job
Make sure you realize this isn’t an eraser, but it does a good job of giving a child – or an adult – something to put between their teeth instead of destroying a pencil prematurely. It’s not flimsy / delicate, and while they can certainly be destroyed over time it’s not a bad thing to have for the habitual pencil chewers.

Maybe my son's a bit odd...
When they arrived they seemed pretty sturdy and they fit my son's pencils really well. Within a day he'd chewed off the windows of the train. I haven't given him the star yet because the train, while it helped his sensory needs, didn't meet my standards. If you have an excessive chewer (mangled Legos, metal keys with dents in them, etc), pass these up an find something better.Pros: Helps with sensory issues and helps focus.Cons: Not for tough chewers.

Helpful
My 6 year old daughter will chew off the eraser, metal band, and start chewing through the wood of a pencil if she doesn't have anything better to chew on. We've had these for a few weeks and they've been very helpful. (She also uses another handheld chew stick.) She has managed to chew off a few tiny bits from the star so I don't expect these to last forever. Still, these are very handy to have available and don't look "babyish" in with a 1st grader's school supplies.

Classroom & Homework success
Our son has a sensory processing disorder and these pencil chewies have proven essential to his focus during classroom (and homework!) activities. We have a set at home, and a set at school. Occasionally another student mistakes them for erasers, but we've worked through it. Also, the metal band that typically holds erasers onto the end of pencils can get stuck inside the chewie, but with a little effort (and a needle-nosed pliers), we've extracted several over the years.

Pencil toppers save teeth
Without pencil toppers, my son totally chews up his pencils, the erasers, metal bits, everything. I was concerned that he was going to chip a tooth, or cut his gums. Now I place the pencil toppers on the pencils, and it gives him something safe to chew.

These keep my chewing 7-year-old occupied
I was at wits end about how to deter my child from chewing but google pointed me to another idea, give her something to chew on.These pencil toppers are discrete enough to not single my daughter out for her chewing but they also have saved many markers, pens, hoodie draw strings, sleeves, and collars from her destructive chewing.Pros:ToughNo flavorLook like they belong on a pencilCons:PriceOne color
