A beautiful reminder to love ourselves for who we are and to shine. Patrick McDonnell and Naoko Stoop created a beautiful collaboration, her art is soothing and his story is timeless. McDonnell is our families favorite children's book author, he always provides a wonderful message delivered in fun stories. We read books before bed everynight and McDonnells stories never get old.

Love this book!
I got this at Barnes and Noble, but just had to leave a review here since the zero reviews so far don't do it justice. The art is beautiful. I'm surprised the illustrator isn't more well known. I love how she fills in all space with gorgeous colors without leaving lots of white, blank space in the background. I like to pause and admire the art before turning the page, something I don't do often with children's books. The story itself is sweet. It might be a little cheesy to some, but the moral is good for children and adults. Basically the star fish, who spends so much time wanting to be like the stars in the sky, ultimately realizes the beauty of the ocean around him. It's a nice twist on the Grass is greener on the other side theme. I would like to see a collaboration between this author and illustrator again.I love finding hidden gem books like this. Hopefully it becomes a classic. I'd be sad to see it remain so relatively unknown.

This book is visually stunning and has a wonderful message that hits on so many levels
This book is visually stunning and has a wonderful message that hits on so many levels. Hoshi is a little starfish who wishes to live among the stars in the sky and so misses out on all the ocean beauty around her. But by the end of the book she realizes that her home is with her wonderful friends in the sea.

Lovely story about a starfish who realizes that grass might actually be green enough right where she is (forgive the over-extended metaphor). This is a charming story about dreaming big and being content with what you have. I'm surprised McDonnell didn't illustrate this book himself but can hardly complain when Stoop's artwork is so vibrant and lovely.

Perfect in every way. Well done!
I look forward to reading MUTTS on Facebook - and then this book was released and I had to have it. I bought it for my soon-to-be born granddaughter. Her mothers have asked all their loved ones to gift a book to this Li'l Bit who isn't quite here yet. I gave her my old Illustrated Children's Library from 1956, showing our past ... and this book, showing our future. It's lovely, with great illustrations, and the perfect greeting to a new life. Well done!
