This is not an over complicated unit. Just push a button and stick it in the wood.

Test it before you burn it.
Take the time to research the best moisture content for firewood before you burn. This tool is great for identifying wood that some cord wood retailers slip in that's not seasoned even though they say it is. We have saved hundreds of dollars by purchasing wood that was supposed to be seasoned but wasn't. Works great but if I have one hint, practice with it. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but literally go out side and use it 20-30 so that you get the feel of it. Don't just test one piece, do several and don't do it on just one spot on the wood, do it in a few spots in the same piece of wood and take an average.

Not ideal for checking hard firewood (Oak, Hickory, Mesquite)
I wan unable to get consistent readings in hard seasoned firewood for my smoker. Maybe if you really slam it in, but I didn't want to break the pins. Returned, got a pinless meter that works very well.

Seems to be pretty accurate.
Would like better instruction on use of product. Prongs need to be forced into wood for accuracy.

happy with this tool. It seems to work well. I can't comment on it's accuracy as I have nothing to compare it with, but it seems to be giving me numbers that are what I expected so it seems to work well

Used for checking Firewood
This moisture meter has an easy to read display with colour coding to help visualize what information you are seeing. Has just enough test ranges for different woods, construction material, concrete, etc.Calibration is conveniently located in the cap which also protects probes. Have used on hardwood and softwood of different moisture levels and been very happy with how durable it feels being pressed hard into the wood to get a accurate reading.Carry pouch hold tester perfectly and also space for instructions in case you forget what each Mode is good for testing.Great price for much a feature rich and well designed tool.Highly recommend as it was calibrated exactly to the test peramiter of 20.5%.Very happy!
