I'm a painter so this inspires me to paint and have an open mind on what is fine art.

Fantastic acrylic artists showcase their works...
I dabble with acrylics myself, and waited to get this book at a good price. it was worth it, IMO. The arts in this book blow my mind. As in, I can't believe it's acrylic! Talented, awesome artists. I love this book; it does inspire me to try to improve my work. Innovational works.

Doesn't live up to it's Title
While this book contains many examples of good art, there are few tips and techniques. Each artist is given several paragraphs to describe there creation. Occasionally they indicate colors and mediums used; but often it is just a broad description, such as, " I work from opaque paint to more transparent colors, ending with multiple layers of glazing and details." If you are looking for tips, techniques, and instruction, look elsewhere.

Acrylics in use
I love her explanations and descriptions. Acrylics are different than my watercolors that I am used to using. This was very informative of how many artist work in the medium

Love the book, hate the cover
Love the book, it is filled with wonderful artwork...but I hate the cover and do not think it reflects, or gives a good impression of what is inside.

AcrylicWorks – The Best of Acrylic Painting.
The first in what has become a series of showcase volumes presenting paintings by diverse artists who use acrylics as their medium. From what I can gather, all the artists are North American and that predilection for photographic realism one finds in American mainstream art is evident here. The book is similar to serial volumes such as the watercolour showcase “Splash” and the drawing series “Strokes of Genius” - no surprise as they are from the same publisher and share a tie-in with popular practical art magazines and instructional books. There are 126 large colour reproductions of paintings printed on glossy paper with helpful accompanying texts provided by the artists and the editor; as is usual with these books they are pleasurable to leaf through.Acrylic is my own main painting medium, so I'm always interested to see what other professionals can do with it; I was initially disappointed, as a few of the paintings appeared quite crudely executed (enforcing the erroneous opinion of acrylics as being garish and overly synthetic paints one often hears) but spending more time in perusal the majority of the paintings are well-considered and exploit the many different aspects the individual artist can realise with the medium. The selection of abstract and semi-abstract work is strong and there is a greater diversity of approach on display here than one generally finds in the afore mentioned other series of books. Not a bad collection for anyone interested in acrylic painting – though please note, it is a showcase, not a “how to” book.Do use the “Look inside” option above if it`s available – it mainly shows the earlier part of the book but is a reasonable representation of the content.
