Treating Your OCD with Exposure and Response (Ritual) Prevention Therapy: Workbook (Treatments That Work)

This is for a program, not a light read
Honestly, some of the reviews on here are absurd. This is not a "book" you buy to read like a novel. This is a workbook to use while doing ERP therapy. You cannot just buy this book and treat your own OCD. Get yourself a therapist and actually put in the effort that the program dictates. It really does work. The relief I felt after a couple of months was unbelievable. If you're struggling with OCD, I cannot recommend ERP enough.

Complete waste of money
This book is worthless. Do not waste your time and money on it.

Treating Your OCD with Exposure and Response Prevention
There is nothing new in this book that is not in the Stop Obsessing book by the same writers and therefore consider a waste of money

Is it worth it? (OCD Edition)
The media could not be loaded. This is a pricey book but well worth it, for those battling OCD.IntroductionGoes over understanding OCD, its symptoms, how many people are estimated to have OCD and pretty much how to set-up an exposure and response program. Session one begins with information collection, Session 2: is helping to create a list of obsessions to be confronted. Session 3 is thing to help with self-monitoring and psychologically reviewing . Session 4 teaches how to make an imagination exposure. You then have other sessions that will follow session 2 and 3. Then the final session where the doctor goes over your progress, relapse prevention etc. This book is set-up to help you create a EXRP system and I would recommend to those with OCD. Since OCD is a very specialized disorder it can be hard to find an therapist and even harder to find one that uses EXRP with is the Gold Standard of a good OCD program..What I didn't understand about the role of medications is that they list some anti-psychotic medication. Then we go into the role of medications. From all my studies as someone with a degree in Psychology and someone with OCD is that anti-psychotics can actually cause psychosis in someone with OCD and those medications are not usually prescribed for exactly that reason.Chapter 2: Goes over whether you are a good fit for this program and who should not start the program and why. This book expects that you will have a therapist andI think this book will also help you shift through psychiatrist and help you find a good one. But it can be used alone until you find one.Chapter 3: Goes over Getting information, going over what OCD is, explaining how and why EXRP works and well as introducing self monitoring. This really goes over what to expect during your first appointment.Chapter4: Goes over creating hierarchies of exposure, reviewing chapter 3 and reviewing self monitoring. The authors give case examples on listing obsessions and fears and creating exposuresChapter 5:Goes over conducting IN-VIVO exposure, instructions for self exposure and another review of self monitoring. This will help you start to do exposures on your own outside of your therapist office.Chapter 6: Goes over imagination exposure for when you cannot complete exposures physically, and instructions for self exposure.Chapter 7:Goes over conducting both exposures in vivo/imagination. Addressing relapse prevention, reviewing progress and reviewing self-monitoringEach section provides you with homework to completeThe appendix has the forms you fill out to bring to your appointments and for self monitoring. It also goes over causes of OCD, Tips and reminders, definitions of exposure and pretty much how to get the most out of your EXRP experiences.
