Long Way North - Blu-ray + DVD

I saw this in a theater and decided I wanted the BD, too. European but it's almost like something Miyazaki would have made, with a determined young female lead. No romance, but plenty of adventure and family honor. The simplified art style is more sophisticated than it looks at first. This movie deserves way more attention. And, there is a dog.

I've always said that the best part about foreign animation for children is that it doesn't take their intellect for granted, and in no place is that more apparent than this little gem of a film. The simplistic animation actually works in the movie's favor here, as it is a very human drama propelled by realistic dangers and it doesn't need fancy CG to draw our attention away from imperfections. Although the pacing might seem "glacial" at times, it is never dull. Interesting storyline, strong female protagonist, and no forced love interests or musical numbers make this tale flow very naturally. Excellent for both children and adults.

Fabulous animated film from the same folks who made "Song of the Sea," "The Painting," "The Book of Kells," and more. This is a wonderful, absorbing story of an aristocratic Russian girl who embarks on a dangerous adventure to solve the mystery of her missing grandfather, an Arctic explorer and trailblazer. The animation is mesmerizingly beautiful, with St. Petersburg and then the frigid wastes of the Arctic depicted in a memorable expressionistic way. This is on Amazon Prime Video right now, and well worth a look! I intend to buy it on blu-ray in the future.

while its a pretty simple movie its got quite a strong story about a young girl never giving up despite the odds working against her not only that but the animation studio embraces the time period the film is set in styling everything in this cell shaded look but also adding a painting texture to everything (especially backgrounds and effects) the movie can be quite uplifting and inspirational for young viewers however that doesn't mean it shy's away from low sad points in the movie while some of these more subtle moments might fly over the heads of younger viewers adults will understand I certainly wouldn't recommend the film for very very young kids but for young teens,teens,or adults its quite good especially if like myself you appreciate ambitious animation styles and strong female leads

Stunningly beautiful both visually and acoustically.We follow a young Russian girl's journey through the harsh winter lands and seas in the 1800s to the north pole to reclaim her family's honor. She evolves from a naive, soft palmed debutante to a determined, laboring leader while still maintaining her sweet nature. But this is more than just a story, it is an experience that leaves your senses awakened.

What a surprise. I was not expecting to be watching such a good movie. Although animated, it gives a real feeling for the harshness and beauty of the far north. The animation style is perfectly suited for the stark scenery of the polar scenes. The plot line is interesting. This movie is too scary for young children but should be enjoyable for older children and adults.

This film is brilliant. The story and the animation compliment each other well. The content was not too heavy for my 5-year-old to grasp. This is a film that you can build on after each viewing.

The film features a simple art style with beautiful backdrops and very fitting music. The story isn't complex but will appeal to both younger and older audiences. The film had my attention immediately and with good pacing kept me hooked till the very end.

I was recommended this movie my pen pal and I immediately fell in love with it. The story in my opinion is kind of so-so, but nonethelesspretty fun. I feel young kids might get kind of bored with the film, and it is more geared towards an older audience. I appreciate the art stylethe most and the animation. The film came with the original French dialogue, which I wanted the most. The English dub is kind of horrendous in my opinion and seems kind of under-acted.A downside about this was the product itself. I was sent a DVD with a type of lock on it and the sender didn't unlock it for me. I had a bit of trouble unlocking the DVD box and didn't have any magnets to be able to do it. I had to break open the packaging to retrieve the disk out. Unlock your movies, sender!!

My wife, judging the movie by its cover, thought it was a boring movie. I had my doubts too. But after I started watching it, I was riveted. Amazing story, drawn in a unusual style that you will grow to appreciate. It is like a moving children's book. My 8yr old son joined me 20min into the movie and finished it with me, glued to his seat.

ストーリー性も良いが、何より色彩感覚が素晴らしい。動きもflash?を駆使して細かく丁寧に、そしてダイナミックに生き生きと表現されている。主人公のサーシャが、極寒の地に困難を乗り越え仲間たちと旅立つ姿には勇気をもらった。連れ添うシベリアンハスキー犬が可愛らしい。氷の世界なのに心はじんわり暖かくなる、珠玉の逸品です。メイキング画像もとても参考になりました。

日本のアニメーションは独自の進化を遂げ、美しく複雑な世界観の作品も作られるようになった。しかし、"良いアニメーション作品"の条件はそれだけで満たされる訳じゃない。シンプルな線のキャラクター・背景美術でも、美しく、人の心を捉えるアニメーションだってあるのだ。[ロング・ウェイ・ノース]はそんな作品。早く日本語版が出てほしいものだ。
