Multi-year investment, well worth it!
I did a lot of research before purchasing this flatware set for my husband and myself. We previously had a 18/0 flatware set from a large chain store that (very fortunately) has an unlimited return policy - we quickly needed to take advantage of that policy because our "dishwasher safe" 18/0 set rusted after one wash in the dishwasher, despite following package instructions. We picked this JA Henckels Alcae flatware set because of all the good reviews. The flatware set comes packaged with each piece in it's own plastic baggie. I felt confident this would protect each piece during shipping, and speaks to the care the JA Henckels puts into their product. We've inspected all pieces and found no imperfections (unlike our old 18/0 set, which seemed to have machining/finishing issues). After several uses and dishwashings, we are thrilled with our Alcea flatware. We follow the package instructions and don't let old acid food sit on the flatware for hours, and we use a heated dry cycle to ensure that the flatware doesn't rust. We are immensely pleased! The quality of the flatware is great for the price, too. You can VERY clearly see the quality increase from the (walmart) flatware I used during my college days! Personally, I think the flatware is a great weight. They're substantial in the hand, but not so heavy that they fall off the plate. The serving pieces are a great bonus too! (Original review date, 2014.)2016 edit - still loving this flatware set! After 2 years of daily use, we see some extremely light etchings where the metal has touched other metal, but otherwise this flatware still looks brand new. I would absolutely buy again.2018 and post-cross country move, we still love these!2022 - going strong!

Gorgeous!! And yet affordable. I’m Thrilled. They look so much better than my older set and a far better quality! They’re a nice weight. Great shine and stack great in the drawers!

Great quality
I love this flatware set. The weight of the utensils is perfect, the design is simple and they hold up well to daily use and the dishwasher. For some reason (either a utensil thief or my 8 year old) utensils seems to disappear so this set is my second time purchasing this set. The set is a little pricy but it is worth it for the quality. My previous set is 3 years old and still looks like new despite daily use. No rust, warping or discoloration to be found.

Beautiful set but knives rust
We really like this set. It’s very beautiful. It’s high-quality except for the fact that the knives rust in the dishwasher on the second wash.

Absolutely gorgeous! Great product
Just opened this silverware and it's wonderful. Beautiful and very sturdy. I love how nice it looks, almost too nice for everyday use. I searched a long time to find the perfect flatware that was budget friendly for a large family, as well as heavy duty for everyday use. I'm super picky and have not found anything good until these. I'm hoping I don't have any rust issues as some have commented they had. I guess we will see and I'll update my review if we do.Great value for the money. Running them through the dishwasher now. I did notice they have included care instructions about not using lemon based soaps or leaving them to soak or letting acidic foods set in them. Hopefully we can take good care of them and not need to buy any other sets.I did notice the tea spoons are on the large size, but it seems to be common these days. Do people just have bigger mouths? But otherwise they are the same size as my previous flatware and I love that.Update: weeks later and still no issues at all. Love these! We use them Daily and with kids don't always follow the rules to keep them rust free, but still have had no issues. We are sure to avoid lemon soap though.

Excellent set of cutlery for the price.
After the using the same set of cutlery for 30 years, I finally decided it was time for a new set. I was impressed with the reviews for this one and can understand why after it seeing it. J.A. Henckels did a fabulous job with this set. It's stylish without being fancy, solidly made with a brilliant finish. The cutlery is carefully packaged (each piece is individually wrapped in a plastic sleeve) and I went through every piece and did not find one with a single blemish. It has the right amount of heft, just a little on the light side but it doesn't feel too light or 'cheap'. It remains to be seen how well it will hold up to every day use. My old set was made in Korea, Henckels has theirs made in Vietnam. If I can only get half as many years out of this set as I did the old one, I'll be happy. I would strongly advise everyone to carefully read the care instructions with this...there are specific warnings about highly acidic foods and using detergents with chlorides. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that the teaspoons aren't much smaller than the dinner spoons. The photo shows the new Henckels teaspoon (top) with my old teaspoon (bottom). The photos here are Amazon also show the teaspoon being not much smaller than the dinner spoons. Just a minor thing but I can live with it.
