Three essays on universal law: The laws of Karma, will, and love

Excellent little book
It seems like a lot of these newer authors seemed to have simply copied the material of earlier texts and made their own version. Not a problem at all, as I'm sure all these teaching have their origins in such religions as Buddhism. Great text, short read, cuts right to the chase. Easy to read and remember, something a lot of books tend to be hit or miss on, such as the Course itself, as they can be hundreds of pages of very similar material that's hard to differentiate (they even state they do this for a specific reason)Something a lot of authors are afraid to do is tell you that you need to work with the ego, that simply surrendering to "spiritual will" is more than likely to allow your habitual programming and lower order impulses to just take over. I suppose if you are really disciplined and can dedicate hours a day to silent meditation, or hit such a low point that the doors of the source suddenly open to you, which can happen.... otherwise I would take a more balanced approach to the spiritual journey. Real willpower is required in most cases, since a lot of people driven toward spiritual self help books in general are not happy, well adjusted people with a large social circle and a full life.. they may come to these books because they feel empty or do not have a perfect life, and have genuine issues with their ego programming. Bottom line, undoing habitual programming is like learning any new skill, like say field stripping a weapon... it's all about repetition, repetition, repetition. (called "conscious willpower" in this book) It helps to apply your thoughts in the real world to see real world results too, not just have it be entirely mental like 'the secret' would suggest. This gives your ego a 'reward' and encourages you to repeat the desired behavior and undo the negative behavior. Change your thoughts, and no, it won't be easy, apply those thoughts into actions. Observe the results. Try, try again. Don't beat yourself up when you fail, stumble, and don't dwell upon past mistakes. The past does not exist. It's all in your head. Watch your habitual programming and thought patterns, and try not to ever let yourself indulge in them... give the ego an inch, it will take a mile.... strive for change in the goals you have set forth. It takes work and discipline for both pathways, the pathway of complete surrender (also known as 'the void' by David Hawkins, or the pathway of awareness by other authors) , and using conscious willpower (also known as the pathway of love, which is more emphasized in this book) . Being "in the now" will bring peace of mind, but I don't believe that simply using that method alone is enough. Combined with meditation it's a great way to increase peace of mind, but if you have negative habitual thought patterns like I do, you need to consciously change them on the dualistic, real world level as well, in my opinion. The first chapter or three of the book "the power of habit" help to explain why as well, because part of our brain is designed to remember habitual behavior patterns and even people unable to retain short term memory can be trained to do certain things based on this part of the brain. I find a combination of being 'in the now' and changing my thoughts when the wrong ones arise, works the best. Everything in moderation, balanced approach in a real world situation where one has to work and interact, and simply sitting and meditating all day is not an option.Worth a read if you are into David Hawkins, A course in miracles, Disappearance of the Universe, The Power of Now, etc.... not for you if you don't believe in the source or reincarnation I suppose.. but a lot of the methods are similar to non spiritual approaches like 'the secret' ... the brain is programmed to do what it's comfortable doing, meaning what it's done before. Change is hard for it, teaching a dog new tricks sort of thing... us humans have the unique ability to actually change, and evolve beyond our programming. But it takes discipline... using a "reward" system where new behaviors are rewarded with some 'treat' or positive thing can make the change easier and ultimately lead to the desired goal, whatever that might be.For a pure athiest, it's simply a better life. For the spiritual person, it may be enlightenment, unconditional love, or whatever. Like it says in the course... "this is a course in mind training"

Worthwhile, but not his best...
Well, finishing this book means I've read all four of Michael Singer's books. "The Untethered Soul" is my favorite - one of the greatest books of all time (IMO)... I'd say, in order then followed by "The Surrender Experiment", "The Search for Truth" and this book, which is a totally awesome little book that I loved - I'll read anything Michael Singer writes - but this is the only book of his I'm not giving a five star rating to. Four stars, really liked it, certainly an easy, worthwhile read... But if you haven't read any Michael Singer I'd follow the order given above, starting with "The Untethered Soul". That book and "The Surrender Experiment" were written in the 2000's... the other two in the 1970s, so chronologically "Search for Truth" was first, then this book, then Untethered Soul & Surrender Experiment. All great books no matter what order you choose :)

Life Changing Book
I am very skeptical when people rave about books, how good can they actually be? This book is a great descriptIon of the spiritual aspect of karma, love, and will power. I was able to readjust my thinking, based on looking at the Big Picture, rather than the narrow view. I have been semi-pessimistic and jaded for most of my life, and this book actually allowed me to see that there is a positive side to life. We are more than our bodies, we are eternal souls, that can actually enjoy this life we have. I have a deeper understanding of "life" now, and how to get more enjoyment from it. Once the light comes on, it's pretty simple. This book helped me turn on the light.

Three essays, Universal Law, - but so many questions answered. Great Read!!
I see life in a new light after reading this book. Every page made sense to me and I clearly feel I understand the meaning of what was being explained, normally I get lost in psychology theories but not this time. The idea of cause and effect, karma, will, love and meditation is all things I have been interested in for years but felt I was always missing a piece of the learning. I feel like I have found the missing piece. I am extremely grateful. I recommend it to anyone who can keep an open mind and often wonders like I did, about free will and why we sometimes feel as if we remember things that never have happened to us, well in this lifetime anyways. Great read. Keeper book on the top of my shelf.

Two books instead of one.
The book arrived on time but I received two copies instead of one, and I don't yet know if I'll be charged for both.

Singer does it again
Just wonderful as are all his books. I have read his Surrender Experiment 3 times and his "Untethered Soul" twice - unheard of for me! So I look forward to extracting as much meaningful "juice" out of this one. This is a man of deep wisdom, great humour, love and sincerity and he writes from that place within his heart.I recommend his work to all my friends and meditation students. Hope he writes another SOON as this one was written 40 years ago.
