the lantern is good value for money
As I live in Europe, I bought 3 of these so I can have spare. I Haven`t tested them out in the field yet, hence the 4 star rating. At face value, the lantern is good value for money, and provides adequate brightness. It does have a warm white glow, which provides a nice warm atmosphere rather then the cool white harsh light many other lanterns provide. It uses 3 AA batteries, which I think can be advantage over D cell batteries or gas powered lanterns. (although I don`t know yet how much the batteries will last as I didn't put them to full use)Pros:1. Very Light!2. Very Very Compact!2. Powered by 3 AA batteries (which are light to carry around themselves, commonly found and relatively cheap to replace)Cons:1. Made of plastic which seems not very sturdy and would break after a few uses.2. No option to Dim the light without consuming less power (you have to slide the lantern half way up show less light)3. Transparent cylinder means too harsh light3. In fact, following from above, when the light is on, the lantern casts some grid like shadows (the transparent cylinder has like straight grooves and the light is refracted off them - annoying shadows)DIY MODIFICATION - as I don`t like the transparent cylinder and the LEDs visible, I had to stick some parchment paper inside the transparent cylinder to make it look like most other lanterns and to make it spread a diffused glow - This is unnecessary in today`s world. would have been great if this lantern was manufactured already with an opaque cylinder.POSITIVE SURPRISE - It came to a surprise when I was unscrewing the top part of the lantern to insert the parchment paper. There is like a small compartment which can actually fit 3 more batteries! I don't think this was intentional but I discovered that you can actually place another set of spare batteries here, you know, for when your current batteries runs out. This means that you don't need to store your spare batteries in another place making it very valuable when you need access to more juice straight away! VERY GOOD ACCIDENTAL FIND. I Bet not even the manufacturer thought about this! All in all its a good lantern. If you take care of it it will serve you well. I don't think its suitable for hardcore stuff as it does look a bit flimsy and cheaply built, but then again I can`t really say as I hadn't tested it out yet. Will give an update due courseCheers!

It is warm white, and very bright for AA's, so far so good.
Dropped it twice from the bed to carpeted ground (just a few feet) did not flicker out at all, not going to stress test the durability. This lamp is warm white. I'm writing this review on April 05, 2017. It seems the product page was updated so there are old reviews of the non-warm white on the page. As such, I emailed the company inquiring on the color temperature of the bulb. Here is a quote of their response:"Thanks for the question. We just released this super warm white lantern about 2 weeks ago, and it measures at about 3200K. Many of the other COB and 30 LED lanterns are in the 6500k to 7200K color temperature range."The led lights are definitely on a vertical strip and they all pop on at once when you open the lantern (simple pull up) a certain minimum distance, closing turns it off, seems tight enough it should stay where you push it to. I'm not sure weather or not the led's are truly yellow or if it's just a yellow strip to change the color, also not sure if they pulse or not at this point. Will definitely give updates as I use it more and also how well battery life is after some use. It is definitely as warm-white as my 2700k desk lamp bulb (edison style by shine hai) that desk lamp is 4w of ac power. In the photos you will also see I have a 2700k warm white 4w 5v USB powered directional led light with a bit of a loop and a hook. I'll link these items below. I bought 2 of those 4w 5v usb lamps at about 5.99 each and they seem to work quite well. They do pull 0.85-0.9 amps on the meter *5v = 4w roughly.Shine hai 4w led edison style bulb:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQGA2JT/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_7usb powered led light with hook:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DJZ478S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1This lantern is powered by 3 AA's. In the pics of mine what I am using is amazon basics AA batteries rechargeable. My goal is to have some true off grid lighting, and a good AA lantern that is easy on the eyes, rugged & durable is hard to come by. Time will tell how well this holds up.The base screws off and is the battery cover, no additional cover underneath for the batteries. I didn't upload a pic for the base as there are others out there that are accurate. My photos will be comparing my 4w AC powered desk lamp, 4w 5v USB powered directional led hook light, and this alaskanite AA powered lantern (1.5w*3AA=4.5w, but comparing I think it uses 1.5w * 3 batteries for capacity given the light output I see)All these lights in my pics & that I linked are 2700k color temperature warm white (or claim to be). I have sensitive eyes and while I enjoy having a 15w 6500k bright white light for middle of the day use, in mornings/evenings I switch to warm white as it is more natural & helps with sleep patterns. Do your own research and use what works for you.

This was the second time ordering these lanterns. This batch was not the same as the first. Not as bright and a different type of LED light... I also paid more than competitors of similar design...not happy

Good, comfortable soft light for camping or emergency use.
True to the description the lantern does emit a more comfortable, longer wavelength soft light. 300 lumens is not brilliant but adequate brightness for a tent or one room. You would have to be quite close to it to use it for reading. The case is plastic so not a rugged, tactical construction but compact and lightweight. It does not come with batteries but used common AAs. I bought it to hang out by my BBQ for grilling in the evening but haven't had a chance to try it out yet for that.

Ok for the price
After seeing a review for this lantern on YouTube I decided to check it out. It is indeed very bright but after only one weekend camping a few of the individual LEDs in the strips burned out. The vast majority of the LEDs are fully functional however it's still a little disappointing to have damage happen after only one use.

Good illumination, bit too warm, however nothing else close that addresses that consideration.
More like 2700K than 3200K as advertised, however provide good illumination. Recently lost power for 12 hours and deployed four of the 30-LED variety. Too artificial, harsh and irritating. These will be much more suitable for extended periods.

Meh.
It's fine. It's like $11 bucks, so you get an $11 light. So, yes it emits light. I don't think there's a lesser quality plastic found on the planet earth. But, again, it's the price of 2 fancy cups of coffee, so...

Great design, good for small areas and inside tent
Great design, good for small areas and inside tent. Like the dimming capability, although it does not actually reduce the power to the light.Cheap materials
