They need a little redesign for more security/sturdiness.
These brackets are made well & look nice, my complaint is I wish they put the holes closer together so they can fit the width of a stud, having 2 in a stud & 2 in drywall makes it uneven (one side is firm against the wall, the other side is firm against the anchor that's sticking out of the wall a bit) & less sturdy. I've only put up 1 bracket because of this problem, I'm trying to figure out how to make them work better, I purchased 8 brackets, for 4 shelves.Better yet (although too late for me) add 2 holes on left & right sides to the part the shelf sits on all (spaced apart from the others so it won't weaken) instead of just the 2 holes on the top & bottom, this way we can turn the bracket sideways to where all 4 screws will go into a stud.I don't have the equipment needed to make nice, even, smooth holes like you have on these brackets or I would definitely do this and use them this way.

Will work but not for listed weight
I used these to put up a hunk of butcher block as a shelf. The butcher block itself is a bit heavy, probably around 15#, but these are supposed to be rated for 220# so I wasn't concerned. The screw holes are too wide to put all 4 in a stud, but I was able to hit the stud with 2 of the holes on each bracket. I used 2 brackets, both half on a stud, to support the shelf. I also used my own metal hollow wall anchors for the other two holes, because I don't trust the plastic ones that come with this. I then put some plants on the shelf.Within 1 day, the shelf was sagging, tilted to the front, like everything was going to tip off onto the floor. I took the shelf off the brackets and felt the brackets, which didn't feel solid despite being in a stud. I flipped the brackets, thinking maybe I had them upside down, but they were even weaker that way. So I pulled them out and used standard shelf brackets, and the shelf is sturdy and perfect.I used these to support a lighter shelf with only one plant, and so far they seem OK. I wouldn't trust them with more than 10-15# though. It's either weak steel, or the base just isn't appropriate to support the weight. Not worth the money for a small, light shelf.

It worked for what I needed, but I don’t see how you could install on a wall stud…
I used this to hang a shop light over a workbench, worked great for me, but if you are going to add this to a wall for it’s intended purpose, at best you will only get 2 screws into your stud…if you were centered on it, all 4 screws will be off the stud!

They are still on the wall.
You can only screw in two of the holes on the plate because it is wider than the stud.
