Culinary Institute of America Digital Probe Thermometer and Timer

So I was a little nervous ordering this model with limited reviews and CIA branding, but I needed it last minute and the price was reasonable. Very glad I did. Probe was very accurate. Not fancy but easy to use the two basic functions - count down timer (with overage time shown) and count up temperature. Both the time and temperature alert worked well. The probe had no issues with my oven at 400 degrees. I saw many other models that had issues with the probe but I assume as long as I hand clean it and dont use it on a grill(has warning label on probe) it should be fine. I'll post an update if needed after additional use but the bottom line is my Christmas Prime Rib was cooked perfectly thanks to this thermometer.

I bought this CIA-branded model based upon the glowing reviews. And it may be everything those before me have said. But it doesn't work for me: I need a digital temperature watchdog that tells me, with an alarm, when something has COOLED to a specific temperature as often as I need to know when something has been heated to a temperature.This probe fails that test; if you set the temperature alarm BELOW what the probe is currently reading, and arm the alarm, it starts blaring immediately, and will continue to do so until you reach your lower target temperature, when it finally stops. This technically is an alert of sorts (sudden silence) but it probably won't keep me from smashing the thing with a hammer after 15 minutes of continuous beeping <grin>.The other problem is that you cannot calibrate it. I found it off by several degrees via a sea-level water boil. I need the precision. I'm buying something else.

I am very pleased with the probe thermometer--good quality and does a great job in the oven. However, I was hoping to use the thermometer to make candy. I talked with the manufacturer and they told me that it was not designed for liquids. They did suggest that I look on their web page for candy thermometers. Would recommend it to others.

This thermometer was recommended by a friend, and I couldn't be happier with it. I cooked the best Christmas ham ever, and it was so easy by removing the guess work. It's easy to read from a distance, the alert was at the perfect volume level, and clean-up was a snap.I highly recommend this thermometer!!!News Years Day - it'll be re-tested on a standing prime rib roast, now that's one piece of meat you do not want to overcook.Enjoy!

I cook and bake a lot,so I put a probe thermometer through a lot. From jams to bread, it is put though its paces. I have been through a lot of these. Usually the cable dies fast. This one is the most rugged I have ever had. It is almost always accurate and responds quickly. The price is affordable. Outside of getting the $100 instant read thermometer, this the best I have tried. It is a winner in my book.

I bought this to check the temperature accuracy on my regular oven and toaster oven. The max temperature is NOT 400 as advertised. Once the temperature gets above 368 or so, the reading switches "HI" which is worthless and tells me nothing. Spend your money on something else if you are looking for readings over 365. Unfortunately I threw out the packaging before I tested it otherwise I would have returned it.

My husband and I are only average cooks, but we use this almost every day and it has performed well for three months so far. The cord is pretty long, which makes it easy to reach into the oven and take the temperature of whatever's in there.

I cook and bake a lot and thermometers come and go but this one is build like a tank thats why i have 4 of them. 1 i gave to a good friend and the other 3 i used at home and work.
