Five stars for Garrett Clayton
I had to watch this film 3 times before I could honestly say what I thought of the entire thing as a whole. I can also tell you that from first viewing, actually the first scene, Garrett Clayton provides a groundbreaking career defining starring role portraying Brent Corrigan. This was not just good acting or mere good casting. With Garrett he owned the role so fully it was as if you were watching the real person. I knew of this whole story and of the murder of "Stephen" (name change here) the man who had discovered Sean Lockhart aka Brent and was the mogul behind Cobra Video where he made his first films. Christian Slater plays Steve and also gets deep and realistically into his role. There are so many reasons to love this film and at the same time there are some real problems with it like why couldn't it go deeper into the lives of the characters. What was Brent's background story? How did he even get to the point of going to see Steve beyond an "internet site." Bottom line - what were both these characters main motivations. The other issue is this film is described as a "dark comedy" but that genre only seems to pop up with the scenes with James Franco and Keegan Allen playing the escorts/rival porn makers Harlow and Joe who desperately want to work with Brent to help enhance their floundering cash flow. The story line following Steve and Brent is well played out, yes needs more backstory but will pull you in fully. Then we jump to the Franco scenes and with my first viewing he was so over the top it ruined the experience for me. James Franco took an over the top character and made him basically unbearable. But you know the story. "Steve" is killed at the time he supposedly won't let Brent out of his contract. But after my third viewing everything fell together. I got used to Franco and the film got better and better each time. It just couldn't decide whether it was a story about the gay porn industry, a story about Brent Corrigan, a dark comedy but it does all work. And bottom line to watch Garrett Clayton bring Brent to life with such realism and passion with a script that definitely lacked the words and tools to guide him is a true experience. There is so much going on behind the eyes and actions of his character. He has his motives and I wanted an even juicier script for the sake of Garrett. I loved the scene where his mother played by Alicia Silverstone says "Don't use your puppy dog innocent looks on me!! They won't work." His character knew how to play people for sure. I am indeed a huge Garrett Clayton fan and this film shows the true potential this gifted actor has beyond his charm and exceptional good looks. KING COBRA, whatever your opinion, also deserves huge kudos for taking a chance and delivering something beyond the typical grade "B" gay films out there. This film is indeed an experience and gets that fifth star all for Garrett Clayton. Also want to add that this film looks amazing on blu ray. The detail is crisp and colors vibrant and natural. The film pops off the screen with a vividness far beyond that with the dvd. Often blu rays are not worth the extra in price but here it definitely is. Recommended.

I would encourage others to watch King Cobra
I watched this movie multiple times during my 48 hour rental. The streaming quality was about the highest I have ever enjoyed as a paying viewer! I make soft nude male modeling video DVDs here as Nick Baer, I made a significant portion of my video catalog during the time of Cobra, Brent Corrigan and Bryan Kocis. My bias as a producer/director like Kocis, made me walk between finding and hiring guys to work, but not getting socially/romantically involved like Kocis did as depicted, as I watched the movie.I differ with most other reviewers here, not only because I worked and produced during the era depicted by the movie, but also as a “gay” studio I like nudity. hearing others call “nudity” as “trash” takes us all back to the Cistine Chapel in the 1500s. It was great seeing Garrett Clayton in a prolonged baggy - but nicely filled (hopefully not padded) - briefs view, but disappointed that with the rest of the cast there were quick chest and back views, with no bare bottoms or even decent underwear frontals. Why disappointed? That brings up my most important criticism of “King Cobra”: who, what segment of the population, was the movie made for? Gay guys want to see skin. If you are, but don’t, you might fit into other demographics, equally under-served…We producers were not happy about Corrigan’s age reveal, as that occurred about the time that the Bush administration and the FBI began a two-year campaign, 2006-2008, of raids on straight and gay studios, inspecting age verification IDs under the 2257 statute. We all learned of Kocis’ murder days after, and days before the perps were apprehended. To this day, I know the attorney who helped unravel Corrigan’s contract with Cobra, but didn’t know until this movie that he did. That might have been of interest to BA or MBA business types, and then what exactly did the FBI do once the reveal was in the headlines?Crime novella fans might be more interested in the murder, trial, and adjudication, not about Corrigan’s work, nor Kocis’ work, but there was nothing about the trial, life sentences and prison. No Leroy Jethro Gibbs presence. In real life, I remember that Kocis’ sister had more interesting things to do with the disposition of his estate, and his movies, but what we saw of her was trying to set him up with dates.Fans of James Franco interested in seeing him flirting with more gay themes, might be drawn, but I stop at just wanting to see his skin. Just because he mindlessly shouted the “F”-word a lot, doesn’t make his character “gay,” just kind of low-brow. His face is lovable. His boxer briefs looked a little empty in the one view of him on the floor. We loved Christian Slater 30 years ago, and certainly still do, but film, video, makes love to the Garrett Clayton’s of the talent pool.I make nude video, but I have never seen a Corrigan movie. Garrett Clayton was a visual mirror image of still photos of Corrigan of the era, and relaxed, sexy, friendly. Fine if he learned that from Disney(!). All the guys were great “kissers,” with hopefully no “body double” stand-ins! I would encourage others to watch King Cobra, if only to support Garret Clayton in future “gay” roles. Every generation needs a role model.

King Cobra.
