Q: how does it sound with a clip on mic?

I use it in a live rock band setting with a clip on Pro Audio Technica 35. Works great. And if you cant get your monitor mix right, you get great feedback from your sound without futzing with the sound guy!!!!

Q: Will this device scratch your instrument?

I haven't had any issues on any of my horns. Alto, tenor and soprano

Q: How well does it work with an SM58 mic?

Perfect . Works with all types of mics.
