A walk to remember and be remembered
I came to know of this very beautiful book from the International Conference of Indian Association of Palliative Care held in NIMHANS, Bangalore in 2023. Me and my wife Anasuya met Dr M R Rajagopal sir there in person. We were very amazed at his dynamic yet so humble personality. 'Walk with the Weary' describes his journey into palliative care and as we go deep into the book, our journey also takes us deep into the intricacies of palliative care. Thus, the walk is a memorable one for both the reader, the persons receiving palliative care and the palliative care practioner. I, myself being a pain & palliative care consultant, really feel grateful to have met Dr Rajagopal sir and furthermore came to know of his journey through his very illustrated yet genuine representaion in the above mentioned book.

Excellent book, everyone should read atleast once
Excellent book everyone should read atleast once in their lifetime. Love, compassion, empathy for other's is what are the attributes of a doctor and one has to cultivate it within us to be a great person. This book is for that journey. Morphine a miracle drug and unfortunate enough that our country being the largest producer of this, is not available for those who need the most....... EOL ie end of life should be dignified and this book is for that. Please read it. Worth in millions for those who value life.

When care makes more difference than attempting cure
As a young doctor I wish I had read this book before I started practicing medicine. This book teaches a vital art of connecting with patients. I was often told that books can't teach that but I am glad there is finally a book that teaches that so beautifully. Dr Rajagopal has been a role model for me and I hope this book inspires budding doctors to learn how to treat people as a whole and not just the disease. This book beautifully preaches that there is care beyond cure and I would highly recommend this to each and every health care worker.

A beautiful walk through an outstanding doctor's life
I accidentally stumbled upon this book while scrolling through in Amazon..And seeing Rajagopal Sir had wrote it bought it immediately..I was pretty inspired by a talk he had given in our college..So awed by his humility and perseverance and all the things he had done to alleviate so many peoples suffering..It was so inspiring to see the smiles of the peoples(through the photos in his slides) who's life he had graced and uplifted with his presence..At the end of the lecture I felt I had to do something..But again flowed with the hustle and bustle of life..Chancing on this book made me so happy..It is an amazing book..I think this should be incorporated in the MBBS curriculum..The book is an AETCOM class in itself...It has so many invaluable lessons for each and everyone....Sir is a role model for empathy and ethics..And I especially loved the box of treasures he has mentioned in his book..His book has sensitized me to pain ..how it fills life..how it changes a person..and mademe understand how someone close to me had changed so..My favorite teacher Dr Joy Philip Sir always tried to impress on our minds the importance of doing one's life work well by quoting Martin Luther King" If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, like Beethoven composed music and Shakespeare wrote poetry"..Rajagopal Sirs book shows us exactly how..It's a must read..

A MUST READ FOR ALL
This is a paper back edition written in a simple and concise manner. An internationally known palliative care physician, this is Dr. Rajagopal’s autobiography, and his personal journey into the world of palliative care which he pioneered in India. His foundation that started in Calicut has spread and taken roots in various parts of the country.I loved reading every little part of the book be it his simple early childhood, education, medical studies, love life and so on. I do feel tremendously proud to say that he is one my students. The book contains stories of so many suffering people and their pain and hishumane and empathetic approach towards each of them. The book also touched an emotional chord at the openness with which he expressed his frustration, anger helplessness and loneliness. This was also laced with hidden aspects of joy, success, love and an amazing connectedness. In many parts of the book I too was able to journey along with him. I could perhaps relate as I too am a medical doctor and also since Dr. Rajagopal was our physician when my husband needed care and comfort during his terminal stages of malignancy. The last part of the book about EOL (End Of Life ) resonates well with me personally. It also reminded me of all the manifold ways he has helped me in my own journey into the 80s My personal tribute to him. 🙏🏽This is a MUST read book for all sections of people irrespective of age, education, profession or social status. I hope the book gets translated into regional languages to reach a larger audience.—- by Dr Sara Varghese former Principal medical college Kottayam / Former staff at CMC Vellore and at CMAI

An easy read for a lay person
Review by my mother, Mrs Ann Jacob. “ I had heard about Palliative care but did not take much interest in it. It was only when my husband was diagnosed with cancer that I heard this term again and took a real interest in it. I reached out to any source that could shine some light on this dreadful disease. To my good fortune, my daughter got me a copy of this book online from Amazon and I could read up on it.The beauty of the book is that inspite of it being a medical book, Sir is able to take his reader along with him. A lay person will find no difficulty in reading it. Even the most complicated procedures are meticulously described. It is an eye opener for a lay person. The heart rending condition of patients in pain truly touched the core of my heart. The topic of Palliative care may put off many people because it brings to mind morbid thoughts of pain and death. But sir has infused it with such good humour , that we tend to appreciate that and forget the pain.”
