The Art of Kong: Skull Island Hardcover – Illustrated, March 21, 2017

I like that this book isn’t overpopulated with production stills or screen grabs from the film. There’s a lot of text but not a lot of it pertains to the actual visual development of the creatures or skull island. There’s a lot of behind the scenes of filming and some general talk on the development but it all seems like it’s try to sell the film. It’s a very surface look that you can get from the bonus features on the Blu-Ray. Now, the concept art is what makes the book well worth its price. There’s a ton and it’s all great. You get to see Kong at different stages of development. You get to see creature designs that made it into the film and designs that didn’t. There are also storyboards. There’s a variety of concept art such as pencil sketches and full paintings and 3D models. The only issue with the art is that they don’t credit the artist on the page featuring the art. That’s disappointing. I’d really like to be able to see this work and then see who made it. They give a lot of credit to Crash McReery and that is nice but that’s about it. I would like the book better if it had those credits. Overall though, I’m not disappointed in the book. It captures the film’s vibrancy.

A great read! The book also has wonderful photos, art work, and insight to the making of this epic movie. And Tom Hiddleston is so delightful to see as Captain James Conrad. Sorry, can't resist. LOL! Definitely one of my most fave movies in Spring 2017.

Good book with lots of reference pictures. In testing to see what was going to be in the movie.

Great art and information, but I was hoping for more photos from the movie to be included. Except for those of the actors, most of the pictures are of well painted storyboards.
