BOB DYLAN AND GOOD MURDER MYSTERY WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU WANT?
I taught in Hibbing Minnesota at the school Novak describes in his book. Also I met people who "KNEW" Dylan, worked with family members, was friends with his piano teachers and directed theater on the high school stage that Bob first played. I am always curious about books that portray Hibbing and Bob Dylan.Novak's novel has much more to offer the reader of mysteries than a rehash of old stories and rumors. In the day when everyone and their aged aunts seems to be writing mysteries this book is a winner. Great story, great characters, great writing and a compelling plot that keeps you reading till the end. The story also offers a description of life on Minnesota's Iron Range that is accurate and spot on.IF you are from Hibbing part of the fun of the read is nostalgic...if you ARE a Hibbingite...the descriptions are right on. I still can figure out the exact location of the bar at which 'Dylan" played.Totally surprised why this wan't picked up by a major publisher...great plot, great characters, great situations.

Great and unique murder mystery
In his book, The Doctor and Mr. Dylan, Dr. Rick Novak creates a mystery with many innovative twists and turns. The reader learns a great deal along the way about various subjects including: the everyday work of an anesthesiologist in a community hospital, the often difficult relationship and underlying suspicions between the physician anesthesiologist and the nurse anesthetist, Hibbing, MN with its quirkiness and unique place in the history of one of America's most famous music icons, difficulties of the relationship between father, mother and son in the setting of a wealthy dysfunctional family, and finally the horror of finding one's life turned completely upside down in a flash of an instant, on trial for murder. The pace of the novel is fast moving and therefore hard to put down. Bravo to Dr. Novak for writing this extremely entertaining and creative murder mystery!!

You Can Go Home Again
The Doctor and Mr Dylan is a fun read. I'm sure the medical bits are all correct as the book was written by a professional and were interesting in that they were key to the development of the plot. The story line teases believability a bit but never really extends it beyond possibility. The scenes of night time bar life in small Midwest towns are very believable. In fact most of the scenes and settings are very real and the fun of the book is the juxtaposition of slightly loony characters against the very real background of surgeries and bleak Minnesota winters. The book could have been titled "You Can Go Home Again" but it is more fun the way it is titled.
