An excellent unit
I got this external DVD drive 2 weeks ago, and tried it out extensively before writing this review.Things I like about this product:1- It works well right out of the box. I have Windows and Linux systems, and works fine with both. I don't have Apple, but reading the instruction, that system will recognize the DVD writer once there is a disc inside.2- It seems to be well built. It is of course made with plastic like all the other writers, so inherently fragile, but everything clicks properly. So far I have used it mostly for burning DVDs, about 12 so far, and it has done so without errors. The speed is in line with other writers.3- The carrying case. There is another unit, that seems to be the same but without it, for a few dollars less. I suggest you buy this one, as the case is surprisingly well made, and will offer real protection.4- The warranty. It has an 18 months warranty, already longer than most, and the company offers a free 2 years extension. I don’t know of any other company that does that.5- It has an extra power supply cable, in case your laptop is not strong enough to power it. That must be a rare circumstance, it doesn’t take more power than others, but it is a nice touch.Things I don’t particularly like: Only one: the cable. It is short and while this is not a problem with laptops, actually could be a plus, to connect it to a usb port at the back of a tower, as suggested by the instructions, would be difficult. Also, it is hard wired to the unit, and stores very neatly in the back, a plus in that you will never lose it, a minus in that if it get damaged you cannot change it.All in all, I recommend it as it appears to be an excellent product.

Happy with my purchase. Very impressed with the service!
This DVD Player did not work for me immediately. I have HP Windows Laptop. I contacted the support by email. Within half an hour, I received a response with additional steps to follow. The fellow named Rick sent me a link which I downloaded and after several email exchanges I got my device working. I was very impressed by the response time and clarity of the technical support. “Rooful” really stands behind their product. Also, great value for the money. Highly recommend. You will not be left out in the cold, if something wrong with your purchase.

Data cable could show wear quickly
The CD/DVD unit comes in a protective carrying case giving to the idea that it is portable. The attached data cable is recessed into the body of the unit while not in use. When needed it is released and guided though a notch on the side of the player/burner at a right angle to the resting place in the unit. I can visualize that with continued packing and unpacking of the unit that this could pinch or damage the data cable. The disk drawer when extended is a little difficult to close. it does not have a touch closure ability and must be manually closed. The unit being very light this is a two handed job to keep the unit level and close the drawer at the same time.

Cable is a weak spot. Tray has to be pushed on the side to close.
Main concern is that the USB cable will not last long. When you're going to use the unit, you pull out the cable from its groove and then bend it towards the allocated slot so that the drive doesn't rest on the cable and make it not sit flat and stable. The problem is there's so much stress on the cable because of the sharp angle that you have to bend it (see picture). The cable being thick and stiff doesn't help either. For that matter, why does the cable have to be so thick and stiff anyway when it's just a regular USB cable? If you often use and stow the unit, this will be the first thing to go.Also, when you close the tray, you have to push it on either side, otherwise, it's hard to close. That's because while you're closing the tray, you tend to press down on top of the housing to keep the unit from sliding. And when you're pressing on the center, it sags downwards, which blocks the face of the tray.I haven't used the unit long enough to gauge its reliability. So far it does what it's meant for. The protective case is very nice. Otherwise, this drive doesn't stand out from other drives. Nothing remarkable.

Stopped working after a few months of use Seller responsive and great
Bought this for the single purpose of burning operating system ISO to DVD-DL and CDRs and then using the same drive for IoT/PC/ Server installs. After a few months drive stopped working. The seller was very responsive and shipped a replacement which then stopped working after a few months (both drivers giving servo and other mechanical errors using Nero2021). This was my third Amazon USB3 DVDR (two different 4.5star brands) drive in less than two years. So I gave up and when with a proper brand such as LG from the local CanadaComputers store. Yes, a bit more expensive and NOT USB3 but actually lasts and is dependable - 2 months in no issues. My last LG USB drive lasted 5yrs no issues before I dropped down a flight of concrete stairs. Then I figured I try these Amazon-only brands, yes Cheaper (by $20 or so) come with nifty cable and case features, but are not dependable.
