Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses

Only contains a small collection of the poems by RLS
I was disappointed. Although it is beautifully illustrated, it only has a small portion of the poems in Stevensonβs original work. I ordered 2 other copies of A Childβs Garden of Verses (One illustrated by Natasha Tudor and the other a classic edition compiled by Cooper Eden). Both of those are complete selections and beautiful. I had ordered three books for my 3 children...and now I have to return this one because it is inferior to the other two. It should state on the description that it only contains a selection of RLSβs poems.

Lost two poems
This is a beautiful new copy of an old book that I stumbled on in a used book store. Paying 25 cents for it still seems like a steal due to how lovely the collection is. My original copy is falling apart and because this book is so loved by my children I decided to buy a new edition. There is no mention of editing out poems so I was very disappointed to find that the new edition is missing two. Confused as to why they might leave out these two ( being Travel and The Land of Story Books ) I opened up my original copy and reread the pieces. I saw right away why they were omitted. They both mention, only mention, that the Earth has a multitude of cultures and peoples. In our overly sensitive culture that is enough to leave out two lovely poems. Really what irks me is that, as I mention there was no mention of a βnew and improved, cleaned up and sterilized version for your flighty fancies!β To sell an item as is, without mentioning this omission seems fraudulent.

Fabulous Illustrations reminicent of my childhood...
No children's books touch me as much as those illustrated by Jessie Wilcox Smith. I am a very old lady, perhaps reminiscing about my childhood, when these illustrations were so plentiful. Possibly, I'm in my "second childhood," but I don't thinks so. I will enjoy looking through this and the other books I've ordered by the same illustratior, then give them to my great granddaughter--at this stage, too young to read. I know that she and all children could not help but be charmed by this wonderful book--yes, I'll say it--"A Master piece"!

Golden Books reproduction
If you read the description, you will know that this does not contain all the poems. It is a beautiful reproduction of the Golden Book version from the 1950s. The illustrations are beautiful, and there are 35 poems included. I was expecting it to be the size of a Little Golden book but it is much larger, about 9x12 clothbound hardcover. A beautiful book.

Excellent reprint of this 1950's edition
This is an excellent reproduction of the 1950's version of this book. As a child I had an original copy of this version and in the 1980's loaned it to a neighbor and it was never returned -- what a loss! I am so glad to have found this reprint! The drawings are just as I remembered! Thanks!

Delightful!
I ran across this book in an ICU waiting room at Children's Hospital, Boston.I flipped idly through it because the cover art was attractive, and the whole theme stood in stark contrast to to the poorly drawn and politically correct pablum that consumed most of the shelf.Although I paged through the whole book, I knew within the first few pages, that I had to have this for my grandson!I am sure that there was a time when work like this seemed ordinary and of no special note (though Robert Louis Stevenson seems always to wear well), and we are fortunate that some of these things survive. Here you will find nothing blaring at the senses, nothing preaching politics to a child, and nothing trendy or polluted with technology for the sake of sensory overstimulation. Here is simple insight into the life of a child, filled with wonder at the extraordinary beauty of ordinary things and happenings. It is a life that I had, that my daughters had, and that I am determined my grandchildren will have, as well.

Beautifully illustrated!
Beautifully illustrated and much as I remember my book as a child and so it is especially nice to give to my grandson. Passing on to a grandchild what you remember with fondness is a blessing. You won't be disappointed with the quality of this book.

I remember reading this edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's poems when I was a child! I was thrilled to find that it's still in print, and plan to share it with my grandchildren.

Treasured possession
Delighted finally to have found a very presentable copy of this much loved book. My 3 daughters shared one nearly 40 years ago - now very tattered and torn, stuck together with sellotape. This βnewβ copy will be handed over to my granddaughters as soon as I see them. Thank you.
