Strong Woman: The Truth About Getting to the Top

Bragging, bragging, ... And a bit more of bragging and self-praise. Not inspiring.
Before I comment on any content of the book, I need to say how I was annoyed with the poor writing and editing of the book. Very, very unprofessional. However Kareen Bradly speaks about herself of a 'professional woman' with high standards, the book hasn't seen any professional proof-reader or editor, I'm afraid.I read the book without preconceptions, as I knew about her only from The Apprentice. After reading it - her autobiography - she seems a wealthy, privileged, ambitious woman (which is all ok!) who wrote this book only to defend herself and give her opinion of some public issues she was involved it, and also as a manifesto to her children that she loves them, but usually crosses career as a priority. The book describes her career path but is just full of bragging and self-praise. It is really annoying sometimes as if you want to be praised, it is better to that others praise you instead of boosting about uourself. Not convincing I'm afraid.Overall, not truly inspiring book, especially not for women. The tone is almost of judging the mothers who actually like spending time with their children instead of running after their careers. Also, the tone is set as 'that's how I am and I'm the best - you won't be like me.'Book that defends her life and business choices. If you are looking for an inspiration, this will hardly be the book you need.

A sensible read
Normally the word 'sensible' doesn't get you running off to buy a book but it really does sum up Karren and her book. Other words that spring to mind are honest, down-to-earth, realistic and practical. She is definitely a strong woman but this book demonstrates that she is not a bitch and that lots of very hard work and maintaining her dignity throughout has allowed her to thrive in the workplace.* Part biography (but not too much - just the good bits about what makes her who she is today)* Part Business journal - great advice and ideas on how to do well in business* Part Inspirational - I will definitely save this book and pass it on to my girls to read when they are older as I found myself agreeing with nearly all of what she said and she puts it over in such a way that made me think - "Yes! I totally understand where you are coming from"* Brutually honest throughout - not many famous women are willing to state that they haven't done everything right and they've made mistakes both in their personal life and work life too but Karren does so I really warmed to her through these omissions* Very unemotional - which was interesting but the more I thought of about it and the more I read about her, it was very understanding given the very male dominated situations she's been in* Really enjoyed reading about behind the scenes at the Apprentice as I am a massive fan of the show (just wish Karren was allowed to speak more)Would definitely recommend!

Excellent book
A must read for any woman entering the world of business. This is the sort of book all teenage girls should read. I also think more men, especially managers, should read this book as it is a very honest account of how women struggle to 'make it' in the world of work and highlights the different obstacles we face.

Not bad
Not a bad book, basic mechanics are that if you work your balls off and have no social life you will be successful; true in Karrens case, however I tried this a few times when I was younger, only to be taken complete advantage of... Success depends largely on your type of employer, but a decent read nevertheless.

You've got to admire Karren
Bought this as research for my new novel. I love Karren Brady and you have got to admire her. I enjoyed reading it a lot more than I did Alex Ferguson's - although I am an Arsenal Supporter ( just thought I'd get that in before I am accused by my Dad of supporting the enemy.)
