Tipping Point: Escalation

Lots of action and well written
A fun fast read. Lots of action in submarine warfare. Realistic undersea activity and the concerns our sub force deal with. Intense read and consistent throughout. Recommend this book.

good but know the following
There is no one character who you get to know and follow through a story arc. Instead, you sort of read descriptions of what happens as the two countries escalate into war without either attacking the homeland of the other. This is mostly rockets launching and subs chasing each other. You get the description of what happens and the final outcome. then things move on to the next attack or defense. If that sounds good and you like details on torpedo speeds and homing technology and such, then you will like this. The overwhelming message behind this whole thing, at least for me, is the craziness of high tech war: the speed at which it happens, the impersonal nature of it that seems to rely more on luck than personal courage and skill, and the horrific monetary loss and dramatic and total loss of human life so quickly it passes in the blink of an eye.Scary stuff if you stop and think about it.The writing is good too. There are no eye-rolling conversations and no sappy or angry politics.

It certainly lives up to the first in the series
Well written, easily readable and with enough miltech to satisfy: most of it even correct (enough)! Believable scenario staged in earlier book continues and develops in this one. Very well done!

Scarily accurate
Excellent level of detail and well-researched content. Page turning pace keeps the reader enthralled. Tom Clancy-esque. Too close for comfort these days.

Good follow up
This book ties into the first book of the series very well. The action picked up at a good pace.

Roller coaster continues.
The story line continues to keep the pages turning. Exactly what you’d want. Enjoy as the ride continues. Just bought my ticket to keep the ride going.

Tipping Point will make you rethink what you know about modern warfare.
Today's headlines are consumed with news that 1,000's of Russian troops have staged on the border with Ukraine. It's a clear sign that we live in a tenuous time, where a simple miscalculation could spark a global war. Tipping Point: Escalation throws us into the world of politics and war, pitting the United States against China in a race for economic and military supremacy. Leaders of both countries understand the cost of attacking their adversaries homeland so they fight a proxy war throughout the oceans. John O'Brien keeps us at 10,000 feet with an occasional ground level glimpse through his characters eyes. His storyline keeps you guessing what the next page will bring. For his first foray into this genre, O'Brien has done a fantastic job while playing out what could be real life scenarios. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

Great read
I presume the detail and the addition of media pieces to emphasise details. I read the book in two days it was that gripping. The author is a master of his craft. I will burn through the next book starting shortly.

Generic
Bog standard USA vs. China Techno series, plausible enough scenario as it features events such as the Covid outbreak (renamed but still from Wuhan!) Characterisations are a bit thin, and technical details (for those in the know) are sometimes way off mark. Fills the time if you don’t want to think too hard, but I lost interest after this instalment in the series.
