The Stone Rose: The absolutely gripping new historical romance about England's forgotten queen...

Great finale to the She-Wolves trilogy
Just reading the Author's Note, one can tell immediately what a grasp of history she has for the world of the 14th century, not only those in royal circles but also in the people who serve them. (Enter the delightful stonemason Agnes!) If only Ms McGrath had been my history teacher at school! I absolutely loved reading the life of Queen Isabella, seen through her eyes, and her husband, the weak King Edward II, knowing how firmly it is based on fact. Ms McGrath leads you by the hand and allows you to become a silent observer as to what it meant to be a queen, to have to leave your children for long periods, to deal with a wayward husband who is obsessed with his dubious adviser, Hugh Despenser, to the point where Isabella suspects the relationship goes far deeper . . . This is fascinating history, beautifully and often lyrically written. It's a real treat and I'm only sorry this terrific trilogy has come to an end. What next has Ms McGrath in store for us?

Disappointing
I love the classic tale of Isabella the she wolf of France but McGrath truly destroyed this story. This book is unengaging and McGrath switches between thirteenth century language and sixteenth century language. I found this aspect of her writing to be ridiculous for a historical work (fiction or not).
