Great informative book, if a bit dated.
We have been having a lack of battery power on our 2013 44 Jeanneau. All the so called professionals I contacted just gave me the quick answer of add more batteries and give us lots of money for it. I bought this book to try and understand the situation and ultimately come to a properly designed solution that did not require throwing money at it till the problem disappeared. This book helped immensely with that, we shall see how the solution works this year but thanks to this book and a few others I have much more confidence in the solution. The only complaint I have is the book seems a bit behind the times, certain sections are up to date while others have a mid 90's feel to them. It is also a theory based book not a step by step how to manual which for my situation was perfect!

I had hoped that this book would provide much more detail on the NEMA communications between electronic devices. It really does not.

BIBLE is a BIG WORD to live up to!
After just a few moments of reviewing the book it becomes clear that the author has elected to present the "theory" of marine electrical and electronics systems without much information on practical applications of this information. Although this book would make good course material for anyone studying the subject, the term "bible" implies practical information and guidance which is NOT provided in this book. If you are interested in understanding the theory behind the subject, the book could be helpful, if you need practical information on how to diagnose and solve real problems encountered with existing marine electrical and electronic systems, making new installations, or avoiding electrical problems, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Outdated.
I was really unhappy with this purchase. It includes some valuable information relating to general electrical systems. But, everything else is horribly outdate. The book talks about cassette tape music systems for God's sake. The discussion of GPS, radar, sonar, personal computers and instrumentation networking is just worthless due to age. I am sure it was a great book in its time but Reagan was president.

Great Technical Reference Book!
This book is presented at the technician level and is very easy to comprehend and includes suggestions based on experience for Yacht sized vessels.

Even a Nurse Practitioner can understand it
John Payne can make anything electrical or mechanical easier to understand. I have purchased three of his books. He breaks things down into understandable parts.

If you can understand this book, you don't need it.
The book provides a good coverage of pretty well every aspect of marine electrics and electronics. Unfortunately it is written at a level well above introductory so that one needs to know, for example, wiring diagrams, equipment functions, corrosion prevention effectiveness before reading the book. Otherwise it is written over one's head. The author is clearly capable as an electrician but not as a teacher. Missed the mark.
