A new staple product in my collection!
I would compare this to the Kinky Curly styling gel Custard, which is my favorite of all the natural hair custards for curly hair. That stuff is amazing on my curls. However, the price is not so forgiving to my pockets! This Cantu Custard is a life saver! Just when I thought there were no products to come close to the Kinky Curly Custard, I stumble upon this stuff! I used it yesterday after I washed and conditioned my hair (its the only product I used at all) & to my surprise, it works like the Kinky curly product. Camilla Rose makes a similar product too called "Curling Jelly." That's my stand by product. Its expensive too, like the Kinky Curly Custard, & the results arent as great, texture is similar to custard in the Camilla Rose product, but clearly not a custard. The first PRO I have on this product is the price! The one thing I love about Cantu natural hair styling products is the price. Most of the product line is affordable. It also smells great. It has that famous "Cantu scent" to it. And im pleased with the results. The trick to custard application is using little to absolutely no other product with it. If you are using any other product with it, make sure its not a "cream". Hair also must be soaking wet during application. A water bottle, and your fingers, is really all you need during application of a hair custard (follow directions on label). The custard seems to do very well on 4b even 4c hair types. Mines is 4A/4b. From the videos and reviews I have seen, with the best results, the hair type has been of females with type 4 natural hair. After application is done, I always let my hair "air dry". I wash in the morning (early in the day), this way my hair has hours to dry. Once its dry, it will have a cast. You do not want to start pulling your strands apart dry- with the cast. First you want to either wet your hands & scrunch your hair, or apply oil to your hands & scrunch your hair prior to separating your curls. Otherwise this is where the FLAKING comes in at. TIP: While my hair is still wet, I shake it like crazy, during application. Up down side to side! This will keep the hair from laying flat like a hat or helmet, & gives you natural volume- when it dries. It also separates the curls. So shake your head every once in a while during application, and while the hair is drying.👍🏾 This stuff has long lasting results. For example, I covered my hair with my bonnet, went to sleep, woke up expecting the worst under the bonnet. To my surprise, my curls was still in tact. I just put some oil on my hands again, scrunched my curls (they were soft at this point) pulled it out, to fluff it back out from laying down all night, and voila! I was out the door. Without using any extra hair products in my hair, no gel for touching up, no leave in moisturizures, styling sprays, or anything. Just fluff and go! So the results LAST!

The best for my curls
I've been using this custard for over 5yrs for my very picky curls. I need to mix it with the Curling Cream to avoid flakiness and soften them up. Otherwise, my curls come out very defined but too crunchy. You can play around with the custard/cream ratio for definition and softness. It does not elongate my curls but that's ok. Oh and it smells really good!!

Affordable product that does a pretty good job
I bought this as a cheaper alternative to Kinky-Curly Curling Custard. The effects on my hair are about in line with the price reduction— it isn’t quite the holy grail product that Kinky-Curly was, but I’m okay with that because the price is so much better. It’s a little thinner than Kinky-Curly and doesn’t have much hold, but I use this in addition to gel. This forms the curls and adds shine, and then the gel locks it in.

Happy healthy hair!
I am a white girl with very curly hair—-I have tried endless products over the years and absolutely love this one—-it’s so good for my hair and it smells nice too—-I have noticed other reviews say it gets flakey—-personally I only find this if I use too much for my hair—I wash my hair about every 3 days and have noticed no particular build up—I use a little each morning with wet hands to distribute better and of course more when they first get out of the shower—-it defines and keeps my curls springing...it can get flaky or crispy if I use too much....so I just use a little less—my hair is so happy and healthy since I found this about a year ago.

Cantu Curl Custard- Has potential........
I truly wanted to love this product and give it 5 stars as I saw reviews and tutorials on YouTube..1. Smells good2. This gel good consistency a little should do the job.3. Big jar should last a long time.4. Better price than in the hair stores.5. Leaves curls very shiny.6. Defines curls!!!! No matter what curl pattern you haveI used the Cantu conditioner along with the curl custard . The custard left my hair shiny defined curls however my hair was “crunchy “ and hard. I shampooed my hair , conditioning then a rinse. I used the Cantu conditioner first and then the Cantu curl custard. My hair looked amazing and I thought it would dry soft and manageable. Not the case... once my hair air dried.... my hair was shiny and crunchy. I used more conditioner to try to soften it up.... didn’t work. Next day I used my always go too As I Am. Which softened my hair and still left my curls defined. The next week I did my weekly shampoo doing the same routine, this time when it came to the Cantu curl custard I used less product thinking I may have used too much.... same routine with less product equaled hair still being crunchy. I have to figure out what I need to do. I want to continue to use this product because of the shine... how it defines my curls and that it did not flake. I will change up my conditioner to a more moisturizing conditioner to see if that will help. Overall excellent price for the amount of product. It has great potential just need to find something in conjunction with this product so my hair won’t be crunchy hard!

I swear by this!!
I swear by this! However, if you have thicker hair you may want to try something else for more hold and moisture. I have 3a/3b curls and this stuff does it for me but I do have a lighter or “less” hair. I usually use this every three days. I wash my hair and apply conditioner. I let the conditioner sit in my hair with a microfiber towel. while I get dressed. Then I go ahead and apply this too my hair in the “crunching” method. After, I diffuse about 50% of my hair to make sure it holds the curls how I want it to. I let it air dry during the night and on the morning I have soft curls 🙌🏽
