Q: Whats the difference between the #40008 and the #40009?

The difference is only in the packaging of the two items. Their specifications, rating, etc. are identical otherwise.

Q: What is the rise? I need for pintle hitch and most are too tall

No it will not work for a pintle. I was trying to find a 2-5/16 ball for my pintle as well. Curt offer replacement pintle balls. It is shorter than a regular ball

Q: I wonder what the safety factor is on tis 20,000lb ball. Is rated for 20,000 lbs but a safety factor 2x? so 40,000lbs would break it? Just curious

Typical engineering is at least 2x, but what has to be considered is hard braking, or rough pavement, or hard bumps etc. Trailer hitch itself is the normal weak/break point. Never broken one of these balls or a ball mount, but have torn a hitch loose once, and have severely bent a hitch on a giant pothole.

Q: What nut size socket fits this 2- 5/16", 1-1/4' x 2-3/4 shank?

1 7/8" Socket, also helps to have a large torque wrench to torque it properly.
