Good bones, but fell flat.
I wanted to love this, but ultimately it fell a little flat for me.In fact, I really enjoyed the first 70% of this book. But thatâs when the wheels started falling off a bit for me. Then when we learn how all the main players in this book fit together, it really lost me. Even though the book does ended really strong and HEA, I couldnât overlook the whole revelation the plot twist gives us.First, letâs talk about all the thinks in this book I loved:* I loved how much of the beginning of the book was written in Tobiasâ POV. It let us get to know him outside his Playboy Pitcher persona and left her to be more mysterious which is very uncommon in books, but I really liked it.* I love how the fact Meyer has a baby never deterred Tobias in the slightest. He never batted and eye. He wanted Meyer and the fact Bailey was in the picture never once caused him to falter.* I loved how good Tobias was with Bailey from the get go đ My heart and my ovaries were exploding đ* I loved the nicknames: Tutor Girl, Little One. Hotshot. So freaking sweet.* Speaking of nicknames, and overall, personalities. These two totally have Naley vibes from One Tree Hill. Especially the change we saw in Tobiasâ personality was a lot like Nathan I thought.* Tobias also reminds me a lot of Evan Zanders from Mile High. How the media created a persona of him and instead of fighting it, he leans into it, regardless if itâs who he really is.* Controversial, but usually I donât love the single parent tropes 𫣠theyâre just not my favorites. But watching Tobias with Bailey was just too good and too sweet.* Loved the Noah Riley cameo! Now letâs talk about the things I didnât love as much:* This book is the definition of a sloooooooooow burn đ Which donât get me wrong, Iâm all for a slow burn but this one burned a little slow for me and made it hard to stick with. Like the first kiss doesnât happen until 57% through the book - donât say I didnât warn you.* Tobias possessiveness, jealousy and anger didnât seem to fit the character we learned through the story. I mean Iâm all about a possessive and jealous hero but I just felt these scenes didnât fit his personality and the fights he got himself into didnât make sense. He always seems to have that easy, arrogant, cocky, go with the flow swagger and these clips just didnât seem to mesh with the character we saw. I know it hinted to his past of fighting and want to be recognized by his family but it just didnât make a whole lot of sense.* Overall the story seemed kind of messy and choppy. For being such a slow burn, I felt we really missed them falling in love and really getting to know each other on a deep level. Yes, we knew Tobias wanted her, but then actually getting to know each other and fall in love seemed rushed in my opinion. And we didnât get to see them together, in a relationship/in love much which I really wish we would have (I mean the epilogueâŠ.câmon đ„čđ)* This book gave me whiplash trying to figure out how all these pieces were going to come together. Now again, donât get me wrong here, I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how the dust was going to settle revealing how they all fit together, and when I finally found out I wanted to go back to not knowing. I must say, I sure like the conclusion Tobias drew better than the reality of the situation. đ And the reality of the real situation seemed a little too far fetched for me if Iâm being totally honest. Which, I donât read romance novels because theyâre realistic, but this was just a little bit too much and the build up to the revelation took forever, but the revelation itself seemed short and rushed. Had there been a little more time to develop the delivery I think it could have been a lot better.* Also, he forgot that heâd met her and they slept together once before?! đŹ I was hoping at least to find out heâd been drugged that time too but sure didnât sound like it.* Coach Thomas Reid đ€ąđ€ąđ€ąLike I said before, I really wanted to love this book, but it ultimately fell flat for me. Truly it was the last 30% of the book that just left a bad taste in my mouth I couldnât look past. Even with a cute ending and even better epilogue. I really loved the development of these characters, most Tobias. I really thought their story was building up to something epic and great, but then the plot twist just twisted in the wrong direction for me đ The bones were there, but some of the details just fell flat.

Tobias is everything!
Rating: âïžâïžâïžâïžSpice: đ¶ïžđ¶ïžDo you ever put off starting another book, cause you just want to stay in a certain book world for just a little bit longer, even after youâve finished it? Well thatâs me with this book.Iâm claiming Tobias as my latest book boyfriend. It's the little things for me!The character growth is AMAZING! đ«¶đŒSo if you want a angsty sports romance with a few twists in the storyline I highly recommend this book. There is such a great story of finding yourself worth and being the person you want to be not what the world sees at times. It definitely has a few heartbreaking moments but he HEA is perfect in this book. Absolutely loved this book hands down an amazing read this year.

Slow burn with a swoon-worthy hero
Oh, what a nice way to be back reading Meagan Brandy! As I haven't read much the last two years, it was about time I picked up one of her books again.Even though it took me some time to get into the story, I ended up loving it.With the turning point, where Tobias switched from being a completely self-centered athletic a-hole to become a swoon-worthy and charming hero, there was no way for me not falling for him.Tobias and Meyer's love story is a total slow burn which almost kills you by angst and secrets. Both characters have great depth and I love their development. So, why don't I give 5 stars if I loved this book so much? That's simple... the ending felt rushed to me. To some this might not be enough, but combined with some minor issues here and there that I did not mention in this review, I just ended up with a 4 star rating.

ADDICTING READ!
I started this book last night and could not put it down! Tobias and Meyer reminded me of Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill (loosely). The twists kept on coming and I could not breathe by the end. Definitely more of a slow burn with all the tension that definitely delivers when the spice hits đđ»đ„ Meagan hit this out of the park (pun intended đ). The character development, plot, banter and spice easily made this book 4.5 stars for me!

I liked and I didn't like
I thought the beginning was good, but then the story was at the end and the couple did not move forward. I found it very convoluted and what made up for it were the saddest scenes in the story.

Not so good
I found the story too dramatic in the end. The author wanted to create a big plot just to surprise every reader but it was forced. In my opinion it didn't need to happen. And I also found the development weak. It was too slow in the beginning and then all of a sudden he was in love with her without even kissing.

3.75 stars â
"The one girl seemingly immune to my charm. I donât get it, but I want to. I want to know her. Understand her. I kind of just want to talk to her for a while."This is Tobias Cruz, the star pitcher of Avid University's baseball team and Meyer the smart, shy, and hard working tutor girl's story. It had two major twists that I didn't see coming (probably around 83%) and it kept me hooked. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but it was definitely good in the shock element."He is trouble, thatâs for sure, but I get the sense he didnât inflate the bubble people claim surrounds him. I think he wants someone to step a little closer, to look a little deeper."Tobias is lacking behind in his grades and his coach assigns him a tutor who is supposed to help him study. Meyer is the top most tutor who works very hard for her job because she needs the money. She is detached, cold, busy and tired and likes to stay in the shadows (she has a four month old daughter, Bailey but one one other than her friends knows about her secret) . That is one of the major reasons why she avoids getting seen with the playboy pitcher who everyone seems to know and worship on campus."No amount of this girl will ever be enough. Iâll forever want more. Need more. Crave more. Of her. Of this. Of us."The mystery surrounding Meyer and her past was intriguing but her character lacked depth. The story was told in dual pov's but I feel like I knew Tobias better than Meyer. I didn't like Tobias and his conceited personality at first but when his character development set in, I loved him a lot. His scenes with Bailey were so soft and fully. Seriously, both of them together were the highlight of the book. Bailey was the cutest baby ever!âFrom here, no matter what happens, we work through it together. Itâs the three of us, now and forever.âNgl, Meyer's personality paled in front of Tobias and sometimes she annoyed me a lot. I mean she was understanding, supportive and caring though some of her actions made me feel mad at her. She made some questionable life choices in the past but I can't really fault her for that because she was young, naive and immature. Overall, the book started out to be slow but the character development was good and that's what saved the plot, imo.
