Excellent Chemex filter
During the pandemic, Chemex filters were impossible to acquire here in AK. We made-do with two paper towels, folded for the use. They worked but were surely leached unmentionables into our coffee. This metal thing fits the Chemex and can be cleaned for each use. The many holes for coffee to drain from grounds also makes it less easy to dump used grounds, but it's a small issue. We weigh coffee each morning and 70g ground by a cone grinder is about all it can manage. This is easy to handle, leaves no flavor, and is re-usable.

Clean Mean Screen
Nothing at all wrong with the (gold) Barista filter. Leaves little or no sediment in the cup. Flavor extraction is better than I ever got using paper filters. I rinse it under hot water after using and towel dry it. Every few times I gently use Dawn & a sponge on it. No problems. Maintenance of this thing takes seconds a day, not too big of an investment of time considering the fine cup of coffee it helps produce. I use it with a Hario v60 dripper and grind my coffee pretty fine to use in the Barista. I haven't had any problems with it clogging (see maintenance guide above).Update: I stand by everything I wrote above. The filter is without peer. If it ever went missing I'd hunt down the thief, deal with her, and then buy a new one. (A new filter, not a new thief).

Works great
This filter fits perfectly in a Chemex and it brews a lot faster than paper filters. No idea what the one reviewer was going on about with respect to not being able to get the grounds out without burning his hand, and then his coffee being cold by the time he finally did. I grab the filter from the Chemex spout area, set it in the sink, pour my coffee, put a glass lid on my Chemex, place it on a hot plate to stay warm, and then dump the filter later. No burned hands, hot coffee. Not rocket science.

Good product with a couple of drawbacks
I went online to purchase paper filters for my Chemex, and then saw this product and decided to give it a whirl. Below are pros and cons:Pros:- Filter works very well. I used on two successive mornings and coffee was delicious.- Good quality. Fits perfectly into the Chemex. Also, I appreciated the rubber gasket that goes along the top of the cone; this creates a good seal so if you happen to pour too much water into the filter, the grounds won't seep into the Chemex.Cons:- Usability. I didn't like the procedure. Think of it this way: You pour the very hot water through the filter; after all the water is poured you're ready to pour a cup of coffee, so you remove the filter. It doesn't drip much because the filter holes are very fine, however there are still wet grounds in there. So you turn it over to dump them out (I put them into a plastic receptacle and then do a weekly dump into the compost pile), but the metal part of the cone where you have to hold it is very hot (obviously because you just poured 210 degree water through there). You manage this, but still about 20% of the grounds are sticking onto the filter, which requires you to manually wipe them out with a paper towel or something. And the cone is still hot. After wiping them out there's still about 5% of the grounds in there, mostly stuck in the very bottom of the cone. So your last recourse is to rinse it into the sink. This allows grounds to go into the drain; I wipe as much as I can out of the sink, but inevitably some slip into the drain, and coffee grounds and drains are not a good match. As long as you're in the sink, you may as well wash the filter with soap, etc. Meanwhile, back at the Chemex, some heat loss has occurred with the coffee. This was my experience anyway. Maybe there is a better "workflow" for this, but I just found it infinitely easier to remove and discard the paper filter with grounds.- Cleaning and longevity. Some reviews I read mentioned that they had issues with the filter clogging. Indeed, in the packaging there are actually instructions on how to clean, and what to do if it clogs. Putting in dishwasher, soaking in vinegar, etc. Nothing that's a big deal. But the fact that they addressed this in the packaging gives credibility to the reviews that cite this as an issue. And so the question then becomes, do you want to spend time maintaining a filter.Neutral:- Price is still probably a little steep, but it should pay for itself after a year (or less depending on how much you brew) of use. Conclusion:I'm rating this 4 stars because I don't think there's anything wrong with the product. It does what it says it will do, and it seems to do it well, which is to serve as a substitute for paper filters. However I decided to return due to the "usability" issue described above. My mornings are already a multitasking bonanza with making breakfast, packing lunches, feeding the dog, etc and I just don't need to add anything else to the morning workflow. If this doesn't describe you though then it might be a good fit.

Best metal filter for chemex
Feb 2023 UPDATEAfter 2 years, this filter has become so clogged as to be useless, in spite of repeated, vigorous scrubbing. At first, I was mad, but then I did the math. This filter costs $33. A box of 100 paper filters costs $9. I make at least 1 pot of coffee a day, so the per-pot cost of the metal filter is half of that for paper filters. I'll be getting another one.P.S. - I was totally wrong about the rubber rim. 2 years later and it's still going strong. It comes off easily for cleaning also.Original 2020 review:My wife was complaining she could taste the paper filters we to make coffee. I'd had a couple of metal filters before (one gold, one stainless steel) and hadn't been impressed with the muddy coffee they produced. Nevertheless, I bought the TITANIUM COATED GOLD Pour Over Coffee Filter because it had good reviews by people who used Chemex coffee makers and because it was reasonably priced. I'm glad I did! This code makes excellent coffee and is pretty easy to use.Pros:Makes the best coffee! I'm not exaggerating here.Easily rinses clean: A thwap into the green bin and a rinse under the tap and it's ready to go again.Sturdy construction: I've only had mine for 3 months but it seems solid.Excellent design for purpose: This unit fits perfectly into the top of a large (10 cup) Chemex coffee maker. The price is right.Cons:No handle: This makes it hot work to lift out of the top of the coffee maker and inconvenient to dump out the grounds. Not for those with sensitive fingertips.Rubber rim gasket is flimsy and un-hygenic. It fits rather loosely and you have to clean under it periodically. Yuck. I expect that this will be the first part to fail over time.Bottome line: This is a must-have item for Chemex owners. Recommended.
