Reminiscence [DVD] [2021]

So terrible! So boring! The trailer is a total deception.
Poor, lazy, boring writing. Not a single novelty in the story, as if a freshman in script writing school wrote it for some homework, and he copied for it every single cliche ever used before in movies history. Pathetic

4k noir Sci-Fi future spectacular
This is a great movie: combining the visual flare of 4K with the mystery of classic noir plus sci-fi of a possible catastrophic future plus a love story that goes beyond death. The best part of any good plot is believable, unexpected twists which this has in spades. This is truly a stunning work of art, deserving watching several times. Hugh Jackman is a believable hero, particularly in NOT being a superhero, but portraying a vulnerable mind-jockey. The excellent actors do what I want in a major motion picture: take me to a place I haven't been before. Viewed on a large wall screen projected in 4K with full surround sound, it's an immersive experience. Bravo!

Very good Movie Comes together well at the end
Just rented here on Amazon Prime. I enjoyed this movie. At first I felt it might be moving into a bit of an odd direction but it really came together at the end . Anything else I would say would spoil it for you, so enjoy!!!

Cringe
This movie was so bad I got vicarious cringe from it. I really like the theme and mood of a flooded deep south and in a neo noir setting but it was wasted on the poor script. I can't believe the creator of Westworld (first two seasons were great) made this. Seriously, it's like if an amateur, maybe a teenager had wrote the script.

Lacks any storyline
Terrible movie. Only made it halfway through and couldn’t get any further. I’d like a refund, but am not sure how to get Amazon to stand behind digital products.

Reminiscence, great Science Fiction Film Noir!
All the negative reviews didn't dissuade me from getting this one... BUT, you have to be a fan of the film noir style to enjoy it! It's also a tragedy in the classic style. The voice over adds to the style, and the fact he is being a detective adds to it and gives it that classic feel!It was great story telling, lots of twists and turns, and yeah, we've seen this sort of thing before (go back 2500 years), but it doesn't make it any less enjoyable.Visuals were stunning, and it was just a great ride!My wife, who's not a science fiction fan, really enjoyed it. But of course she's a Hugh Jackman fan!Great use of classic archetypes, and it's sad it wasn't better appreciated! It's a great value at the pricepoint. My hope is when it hits streaming that it'll get the fan love that this movie deserves!Just my opinion, your appreciation may vary!

Scifi action
This movie is more of a love story than a scifi movie. There's some action and the future is close to what may happen to Miami Florida in the future. In all this movie is average in being a good scifi action movie.

Perfectly Fine Movie
Y’all need to calm down. It’s a love story, not a dopamine chaser.

A TRAGIC LOVE STORY
In the near future, climate change has caused much flooding and high day-time temperature's , forcing people to conduct life at night, very much the case for Miami where Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman) runs a business with partner Watt's ( Thandiwe Newton ) which, some may think dangerously help people relive their memories.Which is where Nick first meets Mae (Rebecca Ferguson) and immediately becomes obsessed, the two form a loving relationship which sadly will be torn apart when Mae is abducted.Nick will try every means possible to find Mae which takes him to many a dangerous place, but is set to spend the rest of his days reliving the memories he had of his time with herMaybe not everyone's cup-of-tea, but I did enjoy the film. The 4k brought out the best possible picture quality.

Memories
What's this? A movie from a big studio that is a stand alone story? And based on a wholly original idea? What will they think of next! It's the relatively near future. The sea has risen and coasts have been submerged. Which has left the city of Miami as a place where most things go on in the evening. There was a war at some point as well.In the aftermath of all this, life is depressing. So people like to escape into nostalgia. Nick Bannister [Hugh Jackman] as a machine which allows people to get immersed into their most precious memories. Some can easily get addicted to this.He then gets involved with a client called Mae [Rebecca Ferguson], and when she goes missing, starts to investigate....This is primarily concerned with considering memory. How it works. And how our memories effect us. Since it also has to have plot, it becomes a film noir private investigator story. Nick acting like one. And narrating as one also. It's a clever film. It uses it's main idea well when it comes to narrative structure. But that's a spoiler. The world building is fascinating. There are some great shots of the city and it's surrounding areas, and I am glad I saw this on the big screen just for that. The plot is clever. There are some very good twists and turns which really keep it going. And the cast are all good. Everyone puts in a shift. Nobody lets the side down.It is very good while it lasts. But it doesn't really stick in the mind for too long afterwards. I ummed and awed over giving this a three or a four, but I think it just deserves the latter for the quality of the production and how caught up I was in it at the time. And for really trying to be a movie of ideas as well. What it could perhaps have done with more though is even more world building. The war is referenced, but you get no details at all. It leaves you wanting to know more. And one or two of the bits of narration can rather be a bit risible as well.Ultimately not perhaps all it could have been, but this deserves plaudits for trying. Some three star films are pretty much gone from my mind once i've gotten home from the cinema. This did linger a bit longer. Thus the slightly higher mark. And it does try to make you think as well. So that's good. Not being a franchise film means there's nothing extra during or after the credits. The dvd goes straight into the main menu when loaded. There's not even a chapters menu. But the next button on the dvd remote will get you through those.Languages and subtitles are:Languages: English, French, Italian.Subtitles: English, Dutch, French, Greek, Italian. There is one extra: crafting a memory. Which runs for eight mins and starts out as one of those cast and crew explaining the film. But then does get some interesting technical stuff in there. It's worth it for that. There is also, in the dvd box, a letter from the writer director which explains some of their ideas for the film. It's an interesting read.

Okay ish !!!
An okay film, some parts got a bit boring, it also seemed to have a low budget feel about it, I'd wait and get it when it's at a bargain bin price .
