Excellent, but not for hassle-free airline travel
X-Large IS NOT AIRLINE APPROVED OR SIZE APPROPRIATE FOR IN-CABIN. (get Large size if this is your purpose)Carrier review:The carrier's quality, weight, look, material and comfort (mine and the dog's) are all excellent, I absolutely love it. It has a type of duffle bag look to it, which allows it to pass by as a "stealth" pet carrier. Almost every section of it has velcro flaps that can be open for the pet's visibility or closed for privacy. It also has an opening on top that allows my dog sit inside with his head sticking out. Overall ventilation is great. My airline experience:I purchased it for in cabin airline travel, on United and AA. On both occasions I took about 20 minutes of pleading with different levels of management at the counter to allow this carrier on board. If you want to avoid this and the risk of not allowing your pet on-board I recommend you get another carrier. I was able to get on-board both times, but was genuinely worried I would not. AA people were the worst, bad disposition all over and less willingness to help out. United was more understanding and the manager even walked to the boarding counter with an approved carrier on hand in case I had further issues boarding. The carrier won't fit under the seat, but can have the back part squished under, while half will be sticking out. The technology in the design and materials gives it maximum flexibility. If you were to risk boarding with this carrier, I recommend getting your pet familiar with the carrier beforehand and giving your pet LOTS of exercise as well in order to have your pet relaxed inside. My dog, a toy size aussie of 13lbs is extremely well behaved and quiet. He was laying down sleeping most of time which enabled me to avoid getting attention and having the staff accept the carrier. If your dog barks, whines or moves around in the carrier, I STRONGLY suggest you avoid this carrier as it is already too BIG for airline travel.

Tight fit on Delta 757-200, Fits well in 737-900
I would highly recommend to add your pet to your reservation before even going to the airport. We flew Delta on a 5 hr flight. Check in was a breeze, we walked up to the counter, paid the fee and boarded the flight, no questions asked. However we had a back up plan in case they denied us. The bag was a tight fit on the Delta 757, I barely had legroom but it was manageable. I would recommend to be ready with pictures (from reviews here) to show in case you get denied and/or receipts from the past if you have flown with this bag before.Talking about our pet, our Shiba Inu fit comfortably. He is about 23 inches tall from his head to toe. We gave him some anti anxiety medication to calm him down and he just slept through it all. His head touches the roof when he is standing or when sitting while awake but when he is sleeping almost half of the space from the top is empty making it easy to squeeze underneath the seat. I am thoroughly impressed by how sturdy this bag is especially at the bottom, given that all of my dogs weight (22lb) was on the bottom pad when I was carrying him around in the airport. Also like the small zipped pocket on the top to slip in treats/meds every once in a while without opening the whole bag. I highly recommend this bag for a large small dog.Update: Flew again on Delta 737-900 on a 4.5 hour flight. Bag fit easily under the seat and had no problems at all during the check in process.

READ BEFORE PURCHASE: 28 lb French Bulldog Approved
Purchased this, along with the large, for flying for the first time with my 8 month old Frenchie, Artemis. This is the best carrier you can buy for larger “small dogs” as it is made to support their weight. Artie stands 11 inches tall and is approx 18.5 inches long from muzzle to butt standing. He weighs 28 lbs, but will be pushing 30 if not more by the time he’s full grown. This is a Larger carrier— anticipate that you WILL get looks/comments from the flight staff, BUT THIS CARRIER WILL FIT UNDER THE SEAT. Do not look hesitant, be sure and be firm if the airline gives you grief. Have pictures to show the carrier fitting under the seat (there’s tons here, on google, and check out the dog jaunt website for more deets about flying with sturdibags). YOU know your dog. I brought the large with me as a back up when checking my dog in. I flew out of Austin, Texas via Southwest Airlines. When checking in the dog to pay the pet fee (95$), the ticket woman asked to see the dog. When I showed her the carrier she looked worried. I told her that it’s a larger carrier, but it would fit under the seat, and demonstrated how the carrier flexed. Another employee butted in that I couldn’t force my dog under the seat, and I explained that I chose my carrier based on my dogs needs. He is stout and bulky and needs more width than height to turn around. I told her he had flown before, and I that I had pictures. The ticket woman was appeased but the nosey employee said she was getting the manager. The manager came out, I stuck to my guns, and the carrier was approved. I had no other problems during the rest of the flight. My dog was stowed under the middle seat, and my boyfriend and I sat in the isle and window seats. He slept the whole flight. Coming back we flew out of San Jose, also Southwest. I had no issues. The ticket desk didn’t even ask to see the dog in his carrier (he could have been a monkey for all they knew). And again he was stowed under the middle seat with us on either side with no problem.TIPS:- have a large sized bag as a back up in your carry on if you are worried about being denied check in. The Large is suitable, although not ideal, for a Frenchie my size,(wouldn’t reccomend for longer flights/journeys longer than 4 hrs). Do NOT put your larger/heavier dog in the large size carrier!!!- be firm and have pictures, even if your dog had never flown before and remember “you’ve flown with this carrier before without issue”- leave the old check tag on bag until you receive your new one (proof you’ve used the bag before) and keep your pet fee receipts- leave the sides of your bag closed with just the top mesh exposed for discreet transport while boarding. (I don’t think any of the flight attendants or gate employees knew we were carrying a dog in the sturdibag).- aim for the middle! Middle seats in the middle of the plane will generally have the largest space to fit the carrier.- do your own research. Read about other sturdibag user experiences with your particular airline and what worked what didn’t.-you can opt not to include the 2 provided support rods when assembling the bag if you choose, however they bag will still flex appropriately with them installed.-the sooner you get your dog used to the carrier the better and easier it will be to fly with him.-I will be happy to answer any additional questions from my dog’s instagram @partyartiefrenchieGOOD LUCK!!

Good Quality and Well Built
Fantastic product, I've used a wide variety of carriers from plastic to a soft one. Out of all of them, this one is the priciest but totally worth it. I've had to use this to transport my cat for the past 2 weeks. When not in use he sleeps inside since it's so spacious and comfortable. As a reference, my cat is quite long and is about 15lbs. He's able to sit up and rotate with no issues. The build quality is very good. The shoulder strap is connected at 4 points on the carrier for added stability. There are a lot of openings with mesh that allow my cat to see out or the flaps can be easily closed off for privacy. What's also great is the board that slides in at the bottom so the carrier doesn't sag from the weight of the cat. The memory foam cushion is secured with a velcro and is well made. Overall I'm very pleased and would highly recommend.

Excellent product
This Sturdi carrier is very well made, with excellent material; it looks great and is very easy to handle.I do have one complaint for the company: the alleged height given is 16 inches. That measurement is very misleading, because once the bag has been put together and the mat inserted inside, the actual height available for the pet is ONLY 13 inches. That really disappointed me. The company should specify to the consumer that difference in height.
