Good book
Pretty good book. Lots of handy info in one source. I bought it because I wanted to fab an aluminum intake for my nailhead as it mentioned intake in the description online. The intake in the book is steel.... Some of the technique could be used for an aluminum version, but I'm back on my own with most of it. I do like the book though. It'll be useful for lots of other metal work as a reference. Get it...you won't be disappointed

Learn from a master craftsman
This book is highly recommended for anyone starting out and wishing to learn about sheet metal work. The first several chapters are a bit dull, relating to highly specialized equipment that is no longer available or very expensive. The rest of the book is filled with tips and tricks that you could never learn by watching youtube videos or on forums. The author is a master at his craft. Chapter 7 (Hammerforming) is worth the price of the whole book. You won't find information like this at any free on-line site. Buy the book!

I came from an aviation back ground and this information is excellent. I only wish I had some of the forming tools that are shown in the text; but then again, I don't own or work at a metal fabrication shop either...

Only if you are a complete newbie
I bought this book based on rave reviews on Amazon.com. However, I pretty disappointed. It's nicely produced and has lots of pretty good pictures, but it should be considered only a bare-bones introduction to sheet metal work for beginners. It very briefly covers all the basic topics related to making sheet metal items for car bodies, aircraft, etc. But it does not go into nearly enough detail to cover any of these topics. It's more like an overview of basic tools and techniques. You could find all this information just by surfing the web. I give it a thumbs down.

Did not help me make anything.
Basically I did not like this book because it did not deliver what it claimed to. There was very little real content that would teach the reader how to work with sheet metal. There was an excess of material for example on big workshop metal working machinery. I think that anyone with access to such equipment would not need a book like this. On the other hand for the home hobbyist and small shop user there was little of help to actually do much fabrication.. The book jumped from simplistic descriptions of tools to illustrations of finished projects without giving detailed descriptions of the techniques to get there.I was disappointed. I am very experienced in metal machining and welding and have a well equipped workshop, but in the past I have only done simple sheet metal work such as box shaped items. I was hoping that this book would help me with more complex projects. It did not.

A well written broad guide to the craft
This book is easy to read and understand. It could go into more depth on each task, but then it would be a much bigger and more expensive book. I found it most interesting, and it has whetted my appetite to discover more about sheet metal forming, but as the author candidly states, there is no substitute for practice. This is a most useful book on a subject where there is very little advice or written information, and still less choice. I recommend it!
