The Helicopter Book that every student and instructor should read
There are a ton of books on the subject of helicopter aerodynamics and emergency procedures that both the instructor and student should avoid during early training. In contrast this new book from the well-known test pilot and instructor Shawn Coyle. He has been through the paces as the test pilot and engineer for Bell Helicopter in both a Bell 206 and Bell 407.This book is the definitive autorotation teaching guide and much more. The Little Book of Autorotations is a mandatory read as part of your training or skill improvement for quick stops, autorotations (with an instructor with you of course), and truly understanding the nature of your helicopter. Ask your self this question if you think you don't need to read this book: What is the best strategy to perform an emergency autorotation in the dark of the night? Lights on or off? Flare or not to flare? Find out from the expert in this book.If you are a helicopter instructor you should read this book with another instructor and go out and build-up your own skills. If you are a student then buy two copies; one for you and one for your instructor. Students: Take ownership of your training. Instructors (CFI): You're never to experienced to learn from the most experienced. As licensed helicopter pilots and student pilots we all know that ideal conditions are few and far in between. Given this truth we need to take responsibility to expand our skills every day and ensure the safety of our passengers and ourselves. The Little Book of Autorotations is a straight forward guide on the subject of understanding the limits of your helicopter. It dispels many myths created by the flight school industry. Think of this book as the raw helicopter test pilot experience passed on in an easy to understand conversation. The book recommends factory training if at all possible to really dig into the specific details of your helicopter. In any path you take this book is a smart choice to start down the right path.Get one for your Kindle, get the iPAD version using the iPAD Kindle app LIttle Book of Autorotations , get the hardcopy LIttle Book of Autorotations and get one for your instructor and favorite student. They will thank you for years to come.

How a helicopter can still fly without power.
The author, an experienced helicopter pilot explains in detail what to do in different situations how to fly or handle a helicopter when it loses power or settling with power, known as the Vortex Ring State.Excellent book to learn more about Helicopters.

The title says little, but the content is big
I was a bit surprised (and pleased) when the book arrived and it was full size. I guess I was expecting something pocket size. The book is easy to read and well presented. Shawn presents information on virtually every aspect of the autorotation, and much of it is wisdom that has not been adequately discussed (if at all) during typical training. You will be much better informed about the components of an autorotation after this book. However, I found that finding an instructor that is well schooled or has read the book so the new information can be practiced is going to be difficult.I had some questions and wrote to Shawn at the address in the book and he promptly responded, something of a bonus!

Huge help for me
This book was very helpful to me. I'm working on my helicopter CFI add-on. I was having difficulty with consistency in my autos, and was getting frustrated. I picked up this book, and it really helped to break down the maneuver and help me understand exactly what is going on. My first flight after reading it went really well and I saw a lot of improvement. It helped build my confidence and consistency tremendously. Highly recommended. Only downside - there were a few typos that could be corrected but there weren't enough to be too distracting. :)

The best book related to helicopter flying I have ever bought
The best book related to helicopter flying I have ever bought. It has given me insight into an autorotation like no instructor could ever before. If you are new to helicopter flying or have plenty of hours, this book is a must. The author goes into every single aspect of an autorotation and gives you such detailed descriptions of what to focus on that you just can't not get what he is saying. Get it you wont regret it.

would give it 6 stars if possible. nowhere else does it give the detailthat allows you to understand what transpires during an autorotationand in addition describes which options are best. i.e. it advises that using the bottomof the allowable rotor speed range rather than the highest rpm duringautorotation reduces your decent rate by 400 fpm. Needless to say this mustbe validated by your CFI.

Lots of useful tips for students but also for qualified pilots and instructors.
This appears self-published - the typography and illustrations aren't great and it would benefit from a copy-edit.However, the author knows his subject and communicates it well. I am a qualified (private) pilot but I learned somethings from this!

O Mais Completo

An excellent book!
Very straightforward and simply explanation how the autorotation works and what is necessary to know to handle a real engine failure. Furthermore, the book is a great tool for flight instructors to improve the teaching of autorotations. As an experience helicopter flight instructor and commercial pilot I highly recommend this little book to every type of helicopter-pilots.
