super firm like they say but I feel I have to be careful because of that. They have worked well in getting off the tarter I couldn't with other regular brushes. One would have been enough because I only use it once a week for extra cleaning. If you are using them in your mouth then I would suggest being very careful about using on your gums or tongue. The bristles are very hard.

I was looking for a nice harder toothbrush to scrub my teeth with, these are the exact thing I was looking for. I'm not a smoker but I find that plaque still sticks on my teeth with basic brushes. These make me feel like I'm giving them the good scrub they deserve. People say rough brushes degrade enamel but in my mind I'd rather give them a good scrub than have tartar and plaque buildup from a soft brush.
