It is a very minimal smell and dissipates after drying

Does it leave any residue? I want to use it over the back of a mirror which touches the wall, so I need to be sure this won't leave residue on walls.

Not that I could tell. I used this on the backside of some MDF trim. Once it was dried/cured, you couldn’t tell I had applied anything.

Should afm safe seal be used on laminate floors, or would hard seal be better?

I had great success with Safe Seal used on MDF, but am not a factory professional, just an end user. I found Dwell Smart to be and excellent and reliable source for these types of questions. I have used several Safecoat products, but not on Laminate floors. Good Luck!!

Can I paint over a plywood that has already be stained?

Yes, there's no problem painting over the stain.
