Q: Is roast date marked on the packaging? Or does anyone have any idea how far past this date, approximately, it would be when delievered?

There is an expiration date in smallish red print on the package's lower back. In my case, about six months after delivery.

Q: Is the grind very fine?

I don't recall the grind being very fine.

Q: does it work for cold coffee?

Don't do Cold Coffee. If you brew it like Normal and refrigerate, you will have cold coffee. GT

Q: How can I be assured that each pound sent will be coarse grind?

That I don't know, but mine was wonderful. I do the cold in the fridge overnight thing and it tastes great. They are coarse grind so far.
