Painting for Beginners: A Modern Acrylic and Gouache Painting Book for Adults (Pretty Simple Painting)

The media could not be loaded. I can’t explain how much I LOVE this book! I’m a 100% gouche n00b and really wanted a good, SIMPLE book that I could learn and follow along with. I bought a couple other “gouche beginner/follow along” books and have to say, this one is by far my favorite. I found that the others are not nearly as beginner friendly- they are actually quite advanced and tend to *not* show enough steps? The steps jump from “very simple painting that you just started”, to - “very complex and basically completed painting”…They left me feeling very lost and frustrated.This book however is different. It is sectioned by beginner/intermediate/advanced which I really appreciate. I’ve even found many of the “intermediate” and “advanced” prompts to still be more than simple enough to follow along with at my..very low..skill level. lol.Another little detail that I love: the spiral bound book makes it SO much easier to keep open and follow along with!This book honestly makes me so excited to open my gouche set and paint everyday! Highly recommend!

What a fantastic way to learn to paint. The 20 lessons in the book build on each other in a way that helps you to enjoy the process of what you're painting while learning to paint. I received the book yesterday and painted my first piece this morning. It was such a joy to actually paint for the sake of painting and have this adorable piece when I was done. It isn't a Van Gough or a Renoir and it doesn't need to be. But it is mine and I can't wait to do another. That's what this book helped me to realize. I highly suggest this book if you're interested in learning to paint.

Wonderful step by step tutorials! Nice variety of difficulty levels. And I love the paintings that I end up with!

I’ve never painted before, this book was such a great way to learn. Joy Laforme explains the techniques and made it enjoyable. I am not artistic, I’ve struggled for years. I did every painting in this book. I’m working through another book that is not fun. That one doesn’t explain things that are obviously in the sample painting. I never felt that way while using this book. It’s phenomenal. If you want to start painting, this is the book to start with.

This book has cute modern patterns and anough detail for a total beginner like me.

My father is a professional Architect who graduated from RISD (a top design school in the Us). When I was young we’d spend time each weekend drawing or painting with him.I wanted to continue the tradition with my daughter (who is now 5). This book has done an amazing job of teaching her how to hold her brush, how to use different brushes for creating different shapes AND how to better paint the world around her. In my 30’s I can honestly say that I also enjoy going through this book.

Deliver was prompt and where I wanted it delivered - content of instruction book was beyond my expectations
