As a homeowner, I've always aimed for the perfect lawn, and the Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN Grass Seed, Fertilizer, and Soil Improver has made that goal achievable. This 40 lbs. bag covers an impressive 4,000 sq. ft., offering a comprehensive solution for lawn care that's hard to beat. First, what sets this product apart is its multifunctionality. It combines grass seed, fertilizer, and soil improver all in one, simplifying the lawn care process. It's suitable for both sunny and shaded areas, making it versatile for various parts of your lawn. The grass seed component is impressive. It's a mix of premium grass varieties that have thrived in my yard, filling in patches and thin spots, creating a lush, green carpet of grass. I was thrilled to see how quickly the grass began to grow and how much thicker and healthier it looked within a few weeks. The fertilizer and soil improver are equally essential. They nourish existing grass and provide a rich foundation for new growth. My lawn's color improved noticeably, and it became more resilient to foot traffic and environmental stressors. Application is straightforward, thanks to the detailed instructions on the bag. I used a spreader, and it distributed the product evenly. Watering it in afterward helps activate the seeds and nutrients effectively. I appreciate that this product is backed by Scotts, a trusted name in lawn care. It's clear they've invested in research and development to create a formula that works wonders. While the initial cost might seem higher than just grass seed alone, the convenience and results it delivers are well worth it. In summary, Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN is a game-changer for anyone seeking a thick, healthy lawn. It's efficient, easy to use, and delivers remarkable results. If you're looking to transform your lawn, whether in the sun or shade, this product is the answer you've been waiting for. I couldn't be happier with the results, and I highly recommend it to all lawn enthusiasts.

I purchased this hoping it would fill in some bare spots and areas that were thin. I had first dethatched my lawn and then scarified it as well preparing the soil as best I could for the seed. I had delivered from a landscaping company their best lawn soil mixture. I purchased a lawn leveling rake so I could level the lawn from some low spots. I went ahead planted the seed with the fresh soil and leveled the lawn. Kept it watered and in over a month now zero nothing not a blade of grass. I had only used 1/2 of the bag because the area I was covering was around 1000 sq feet and the bag says up to 4000 sq feet so I was planning on reseeding in the fall. It’s laughable to think 4.8 lbs of grass seed will cover 4000 sq feet of lawn when on average they recommend 4-7 lbs per 1000 sq feet for over seeding. So I wasn’t even using half of the recommender area and half the bag so I was well covered. So after a couple weeks I decided I would try a old trick of putting grass seed in my wheelbarrow and grow it under optimum conditions. I went and purchased SCOTTS LAWN SOIL FOR SEED. Keep it in the family I thought. Can’t blame the soil If it’s their own I went and mixed up a co side table amount of the product with the soil In my wheelbarrow. I watered it and covered it and put in my shed. I monitored it every day and then I decided to bring it out in the sun when the temps went up. It was easy to keep it moist. I have a raised bed vegetable garden a Hosta garden so I am an avid gardener. I love plants and gardening. I have Window boxes I grow flowers in every year so I’m not some rookie who doesn’t understand how grass grows. Grass needs warmth, moisture and direct contact with soil. That’s it the seed will do the rest as it has all it needs to sprout. Keep it moist warm and in contact with soil. Why the wheelbarrow is a great place to jump start seeds. It’s been 18 days and not a single blade of grass. This seems almost impossible unless this bad had no grass seed in it at all. Idk but I looked on the bag and here is what’s included. 3.68% Alloy Perennial Ryegrass 3.62% Vision Perennial Ryegrass 1.85% Bolster Chewings Fescue 1.75% Boreal Creeping Fescue .61% Starr Kentucky Bluegrass .61% Dauntless Kentucky Bluegrass Other ingredients: 87.81% Inert Matter .06% Other Crop Seed .01% Weed Seed This comes to 12.1% Seed 4.8lbs 87.88% Inert Matter 35.15 lbs Total 40lbs So they expect us to believe 4.8 lbs of grass seed can fill in your lawn of 4000 sq feet? And if I called and asked them how much grass seed would I need for 1000sq feet I would be told 4-7 lbs to overseed it. So in this bag they put in little seed and tell you it covers 4000sq feet but if you buy straight grass seed you need as much as 7 lbs for 1000 sq feet? Something isn’t right. So I am done with Scott’s grass seed. There so called guarantee. Guaranteed you will look to another company for your lawn care products after using ours.

I like a decent lawn but am not going to go crazy seeding, weeding, liming, etc...and my lawn reflects that. My mantra is usually "if it's green, it's grass" and I cut it. As a result, the lawn looks okay but can often be thin, sometimes kind of brittle to walk upon, and only light green in color. There are some things I will try occasionally in the spring to improve its look but not much...and I only do it then. The lawn is pretty much on its own after that. Have neither the time nor the inclination to care for the lawn continuously throughout the season. That being said, I tried the turf builder this spring in the front yard and on the right side of the house, areas which can be thin, weedy and even threadbare. I did put down a little extra grass seed as well, and I mean a little, and watered with a sprinkler every other day for about 7-10 days. Well, I am so pleased with the results that I am writing this review and have told others. This turf builder has made a noticeable difference in the look and feel of my lawn. There are fewer weeds, it is more lush, more green and it looks healthier. In fact, I can honestly say it looks the best it has ever looked since I moved to this house 15 years ago. A telltale sign of the turf builder's effectiveness is the untreated part of my lawn. I can actually see the difference between the treated and untreated areas. The treated area is noticeably darker green and fuller, with the grass growing taller. I am just sorry I did not do the whole lawn. It is on my calendar to do that next spring. As another reviewer has written, don't give up on this too quickly. You need to give it about 2-3 weeks and water it a bit in the beginning. I do hope anyone who uses this product has as much success with it as I have had, and with such relatively little effort. ADDENDUM - 7/23/2019: During the Fall of 2018 I decided to use this on the entire lawn. Bought four 40 lb. bags and mixed in some more grass seed. Laid it all down in late September hoping for the best in the Spring. Well, I was not disappointed. At first, it did not seem to make much difference. As it got into May and June, though, I noticed an overall improvement even in very shaded areas which had previously had little grass and sometimes moss. With such encouragement from my lawn, I will probably do the same this Fall, likely adding a couple more bags. One thing, I did water much of it for about an hour a day for a week. I have a half acre (about 75% lawn, the rest trees and large shrubs). It was kind of a pain to keep moving the sprinklers, and my water bill shot up for one cycle, but I felt the hydration was necessary and worth it.
