Improved Design, Even Better Than Before!
Pro: I have always appreciated the design of the Grateful Gnome feeders, and especially the circular perches as the hummingbirds really enjoy relaxing on them as they sip their nectar. I have seen as many as four females enjoying their own flower at the same time, although the males are busy chasing each other away from them most of the time. Anna's Hummingbirds are the more mellow hummingbirds, but there are many other species that hang out on my back porch feeders that manage to find their chance to feed as well. The newest tops have much smoother welds holding the flowers underneath now, and I suspect they won't be as quick to rust as well. The rust is a problem after two years as I live close to the ocean and the salt air is hard on all metal objects. I've never had to replace any of the glass feeders, but the tops are made of metal and I was glad to see they sell them separately as it makes them look brand new again! Most importantly, they will be healthier for my hummers. Easy to clean these as I have three of them placed at a time and rotate them anywhere from 1 to 7 days year round depending on the weather conditions, migration patterns and number of hummingbirds. I always have at least a few year round, but there are seasons when as many as 50 a day empty out all of my 3 to 4 feeders for a short period before moving on to their nesting sites. It's a delightful hobby! These feeders can be hung on a hook or stand on a table. Just make sure they are out of reach of cats!Con: Depending on whether they are in the shade or sun, you must watch carefully that they are free from any black mold that can develop inside the feeders and in the rubber gaskets. If the hummers refuse to visit your feeder, it is likely because of mold so always remove them if you plan on being on vacation for more than a few days. They will find you again when there is fresh sugar water nectar.Note: Your own nectar recipe is best. I use a small pot to melt the sugar and water mixture until the mixture is clear, not cloudy. Takes about 3 minutes and stir frequently. This will remove the chlorine from normal tap water. Allow it to cool completely before pouring it into the glass feeder. Please DO NOT USE RED DYE. Hummingbirds do not need organic sugar, honey, brown sugar, corn syrup, and most of these will harm or even shorten their life spans. Save your money and don't try to make the nectar stronger as it can deter them from visiting their natural flowering plants and pollinating them. Enjoy these amazing birds and appreciate how beautiful Nature can be.

I am Grateful for Grateful Gnome’s base upgrade
Our little Hummers love the feeders from Grateful Gnome. I own 6 now. This beautiful blue globe seems to be the favorite one. It’s max capacity is 4 cups of nectar, but it’s always the first one gone. They have really improved the design of the metal base so there is no more rust on the rim and the feeder holes are smooth. I am replacing all my bases now on the other 5 older feeders. If you also need to do this search on Amazon: Grateful Gnome replacement parts.I enjoy watching the mothers bring their babies to sit with them on the large round rim. This seem preferable opposed to the single bird perch. The glass, color and design have held up well over the years and looks as beautiful as the days I started using them. Well worth the price in my opinion.Note: Your own nectar recipe is best. 1 part Pure cane sugar to 4 parts clean water. DO NOT USE RED DYE. I also ad a few grains of mineral salt (opt) because my house water is filtered.* Only make enough nectar for 3 days.* Clean feeder throughly every refill. I use 1/2 vinegar and 1 gal water, soak 10 min, scrub and rinse well. The vinegar will kill bad bacteria that could make them sick. I have used Dawn soap with the Duck on it before, but always afraid I won’t get all the soap residue out.
